How to order (perfectly)

I think I’d consider myself familiar with Bhagat Ji’s. Familiar in the sense that everyday at 11 pm someone says, “Guys I think it’s Bhagat time,” familiar in the sense that when the waiter attending the counter sees us I’m sure he sighs internally (side note: I think he doesn’t like me, so maybe don’t be as impatient as I am), familiar in the sense that I am sure I know the entire menu by heart. That is why I think I am the most certified to tell you the best order at Bhagat Ji’s.

Now, I don’t think I’d be a Bhagat Ji’s tour guide if I just gave you one order; that just makes no sense. In my opinion, there are different Bhagat orders for different food feelings.

With any meal, I have a strong belief that you HAVE to order their cold coffee, no matter the time of day. Honestly, it’s always a hit or a miss; regardless, after your meal, you just need something to wash it down, and water just doesn’t cut it.

There are two purely satisfying foods that I have found at Bhagat.

  1. Chilli Garlic Noodles. There are two ways to identify/ensure your noodles are good. If you can, order post 10. For some reason, the cooks during the night shift just do it better. Second, if you see some nice browned garlic on top of your noodles, you’re good. Those are for sure going to be some good noodles, no undercooked garlic nonsense. And if that’s too monotonous for you, then get some honey chilli potatoes along with that.
  2. If you’re looking for someone more Indian, then I need you to hear me out a little bit, only because the meal can be a little heavy. Paneer butter masala, but instead of roti or naan, you need to get paneer paratha along with it. I think this is best split between 3 or, if you have a bigger appetite, then 2. The paneer paratha is just incredibly satisfying; I’ve genuinely felt like I was going to burst after eating it.

Moving on, if you think the paneer paratha and butter masala are just too much, then get the roti instead of the paratha, but get a Dal Makhni along with that and dip your roti in both during each bite. If you’re feeling snacky then the peri peri fries are underrated, they’re not as spicy as Copa but I think it’s just better.

Now you’re going to meet people who tell you, “Get the white sauce pasta!”, “Get the red sauce pasta!” “Get the momos!” “Get the Nutella sandwich!” I mean, you could listen to them, but the white sauce gets too cold and gross, the red sauce just feels never-ending, the momos usually lack salt, and the Nutella sandwich is either too bready or too Nutella-y. None of them gives you the pleasure of a Goldilocks moment. You don’t have to listen to me, maybe you know your ordering better than I do. In the case that you do choose to try out what I’ve told you, then I can promise that goldilocks moment (hopefully).
