“Necessity is the mother of invention,” the old saying goes. College is fertile ground for invention because most of us are our own for the first time. Gone are the days of home-cooked meals and abundantly-stocked pantries. We can no longer bat our eyelashes and ask mommy/daddy for money– we are adults now, and we need to learn how to fend for ourselves.

As we stumble our way through college, we find ourselves adopting hacks to survive adulthood like a boss. Here’s a few that I use/found on the internet; I hope they inspire some life-hacks of your own!

1. Selfie-Skype Stick

2. Toilet-Paper-Tissue Box

3. Toilet-Paper on Bed Post

4. Dryer Sheets/ Clip-On Air Freshener On Airvent

Courtesy of my boyfriend, Harrison. Pretty self-explanatory.

5. Power Strip + Duct Tape

6. Pasta via Microwave

Step 1: Break pasta to fit in bowl and fill it with water.

Step 2: Microwave for 9 minutes; stop and stir periodically.

Tip: Use olive oil to keep it from sticking!

Step 3: Drain the water and add sauce.

Step 4: Enjoy so much you consider dropping out of college to become an Italian chef!

7. Boiled Eggs via Kettle

Step 1: Fill kettle with water.

Step 2: Carefully place an egg inside. Make sure not to drop one in, as this can break the egg.

Step 3: Set it to boil for two rounds.

Step 4: Place in cold water before you peel the shell.

Step 5: Eat (with salt, preferably)!

8. Closet Light

9. Soda Tabs = Closet Space Saver

10. Drawer Organizer

These are all of my DIY hacks! What are some of yours?
