Summer: Expectations vs. Reality

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kent State chapter.

Finals are over, and now you have three months of complete freedom. Everyone thinks summer will be glamorous and exciting. Here are 6 things you expect to do over break, followed by reality.

Expectation: You’ll be in your pool everyday.

Reality: You live in Northeast Ohio and the high will be 52 degrees.

Expectation: You and your girlfriends will take that road trip you all have been talking about. You’ll have a great time, and it will bring you closer together.

Reality: One of your friends is working all summer and can’t get time off. The other one is visiting her aunt in Vermont. Your only means of communication is Twitter.

Expectation: You’ll find the perfect internship and be offered your dream job by August.

Reality: You’re still waiting to hear back from the place you applied to in January.

Expectation: You plan to be more active by going on a run every morning.

Reality: You sleep in until noon and spend half the day eating cereal and watching Netflix in bed.

Expectation: You’ll meet a handsome stranger and fall in love.

Reality: Your neighbor’s son, who you babysit, asks you to be his girlfriend. You contemplate taking him up on the offer before quitting your job.

Expectation: You’ll be a sun kissed, bronze goddess after using self-tanner and buying a new swimsuit.

Reality: You don’t read the directions and your skin is blotchy and uneven. You can’t get the tanner off your palms and wonder why you didn’t buy your swimsuit in individual pieces rather than a set. You can get away with a size medium top, but the bottoms are giving you a major wedgie.

Even with all of these harsh realities, summer will still be ten times better than financial accounting!

Have a great vacation, collegiettes, and be sure to keep up with Her Campus Kent State over break!
