The Top 10 Best Teen Dramas to Rewatch (or watch) to get you in the Autumn Mood

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at KCL chapter.

As the season turns into Autumn and the weather gets colder, there’s nothing better than cosying up under a blanket with a hit cup of tea and pressing play on a good teen drama you can binge watch. I personally strongly believe in the power of a rewatch for maximum comfy and cozy vibes but any of the following shows are great to watch for the first time if you’re in need of a fun distraction. Disclaimer: Gilmore Girls is not on this list because that would simply be too obvious.

The Vampire Diaries

There is no teen drama more perfect for the Autumn season than The Vampire Diaries. It has everything you would want for the spooky season, including vampires, witches, werewolves and angsty teenagers. It’s got romance, mystery, some great characters and a whole lot of attractive people. What more could you ask for?

The Society

The Society is an excellent yet criminally underrated show. Although Netflix recently announced it had cancelled the show after only one season due to the coronavirus pandemic (which is beyond devastating), it is definitely worth a watch. It is full of intrigue and mystery and will keep you guessing throughout every episode. All the young actors in the show deliver excellent performances and it is perfect for a stormy Autumn night rewatch (or watch).

Gossip Girl

As one of the most beloved teen dramas out there, Gossip Girl had to make it onto this list. There is a lot to love in this show but if I had to narrow it down, it would come down to New York City, the fashion and Blair Waldorf. It is escapism at its finest and the Thanksgiving episodes alone are enough to get you in the mood for Autumn.

Teen Wolf

Teen Wolf has everything; supernatural teenagers, memorable villains and mostly, amazing and lovable characters. The relationships between those characters are extremely well executed and will keep making you come back for more. The spooky/supernatural vibes are also on point if you want to get in the Autumn/Halloween mood. If anything, watch it for Stiles Stilinski, his incredible witty and sarcastic dialogue and Dylan O’Brien’s impeccable performance as the character in season 3b especially.

SKAM

This hit Norwegian show is simply excellent. Four seasons focus on four different characters whose lives are all intertwined. The show has a lot of heart and a lot of great things to say. The show aired from 2015 until 2017 but since then has spooned a myriad of other international Spinoffs, like SKAM France, SKAM Italia, DRUK, SKAM Austin, etc but there is nothing better that the original. The show is set in Norway so it will deliver on those cold and cosy vibes.

The O.C.

This may be a bit controversial because this is specifically an Autumn list, but hear me out. In the midst of Autumn it is very normal to just have that Summertime Sadness and it’s easy to miss the warm, carefree Summer days. This is where The O.C. comes in. Let yourself be transported to sunny California and get absorbed into the daily drama of the lives of Ryan and the Cohens and the chaos that ensues from being a part of Newport high society.

One Tree Hill

Yes, it’s angsty, yes, it’s cliché in every way possible but One Tree Hill also has an impeccable rewatch value. Tree Hill as a place gives off major cosy Autumn vibes, it’s easy-going and also Nate Scott and Brooke Davis are in it, need I say more?

Freaks and Geeks

This show aired its first and final season in 1999 on NBC. Although being cancelled after only one season, the show has since obtained the status of a somewhat cult-classic. People love this show and it’s easy to see why. With its witty humour and the all too relatable subjects it tackles, it will give you all the back to school Autumn vibes you’ll want.

Euphoria

This award-winning show is one of the best teen dramas out there. From the excellent acting and writing, to the flawless makeup design and dazzling cinematography, this show is perfect for an evening of binge-watching. Only one season is out so far and whether you are watching it for the first time or rewatching, you are in for a treat.

Elite

This Spanish Netflix-original series is a perfect mix of moody teenage drama, scandal and true crime intrigue. The first season is very solid and will give you all those back to school, start of Autumn vibes.

So cosy up, take your pick from the list and enjoy your time rewatching (or watching) these iconic teen dramas.
