Christmas is quickly approaching which means mulled wine, mistletoe and parties. Festive gatherings are the perfect occasion to wear clothing items you wouldn’t usually wear, to push your own fashion boundaries, developing your confidence and variety within your personal style. In this article I’ll give some style ideas so you can sparkle and shine this festive season.

Velvet is often viewed as a luxurious, rich material which screams Christmas. Pairing different materials and textures can be difficult, (especially with velvet), but it can also be impactful and breathtaking – exactly what you want at Christmas time. Wearing a velvet dress solves this problem, and Monki do some beautiful ones. You can also get some fantastic velvet tops from ASOS, which, I think, paired with smart cotton trousers can create a sophisticated, festive outfit perfect for any Christmas party.

Nothing says Christmas quite like sparkles. You could wear a dark, sexy outfit with a sequin blazer on top (available in M&S and ASOS) to brighten up any Christmas celebration. & Other Stories do some stunning sparkly dresses. A more budget friendly option is H&M, which does lots of sparkly pieces like skirts and trousers which would wow any party guest. I am currently obsessed with this Pull&Bear sparkly skirt and bandeau co-ord, which comes in either burgundy or black. I think it’s the PERFECT Christmas party outfit – and, what I am planning on wearing when going out for Christmas cocktails with my friends.

A Christmas party is the perfect time to wear bold, rich, moody colours. Colours like emerald green, burgundy, midnight blue or red would add a sense of luxury to any outfit. For this, I go onto ASOS (or my current clothing shop obsession) and search the colour, and then scroll to find a clothing piece I love. I then build an outfit off of this. For example, if I find a fun emerald top, I may pair it with leather trousers and black boots to make a sleek outfit.

When creating an outfit with the piece you love, try looking at the opposite colour on the colour wheel and add some of it to make your outfit pop. Or scroll on Pinterest for outfits that match a garment’s style – have a go at assessing the colour palette of your chosen garment and find other items which fit in seamlessly.

Another great way to express yourself is through festive makeup, and nothing can beat a red lipstick at Christmas. Great red lipsticks brands include: MAC, Fenty Beauty, Maybelline, NYX and Huda Beauty. If you go with a more subdued outfit, you could add some sparkle to your look through eyeshadow. Some of my favourite places to get eyeshadow include: Elf, MAC, Revolution and Urban Decay.

Christmas is THE time to get out your favourite jewellery pieces. It’s the best occasion to go with your fanciest, most precious jewellery. If you are wanting to buy yourself a Christmas present, some of my favourite places to shop for jewellery include Astrid & Miyu, ZARA, my mum’s jewellery case and in craft fairs (a great Christmas activity!). I believe that jewellery can be the thing that brings together pieces of clothing into an outfit – perhaps have a go at trying a totally different jewellery style to what you normally wear.

I hope this article has given you some ideas of what to wear to your Christmas parties this year! Channel your confidence this Christmas, and sparkle your way through the festivities!
