5 Thing to Do at Home Over Spring Break

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JMU chapter.

As the last week before Spring Break is now upon us, we might be hearing friends and strangers talking about their huge Spring Break plans in places like Florida, Costa Rica, and Hawaii, just to name a few. If you are anything like me, you probably don’t have huge plans or the kind of money to be spending to go to places such as those for Spring Break. So as an alternative, I came up with five things that you could do while being at home over Spring Break to avoid being completely bummed out about not going on a huge trip!

1. Catch up on Netflix/Hulu

The stress and heavy workloads of college prevents us a lot of the time from actually having down time to do something we want. So Spring Break is the perfect opportunity to catch up on all the shows we have been wanting to watch and also a perfect opportunity to start a brand new show that we have been hearing about! Some of my favorite shows I have come to love and that are definitely binge watching worthy are The Office, Bates Motel, How I Met Your Mother, and Grey’s Anatomy!

2. Workout at a local gym

Even though we have an amazing gym here on campus, it may be hard at times to actually find the motivation and time to go to it. At home you can go at your own time and don’t have to worry about having work to get done before or after you come back! It will also make you feel good about yourself knowing you did something productive!

3. Have a picnic at the park with your friends (if the weather is nice)

Weather permitting, take advantage of all of your hometown friends being back together in the same place again! There aren’t many times throughout the school year that we can be outside with all of our friends from home enjoying something we all love… FOOD.

4. Try new food places in your hometown

There are most likely a ton of foods and food places that you have yet to try where you live. I now that in my hometown there are so many places that I am just dying to try. Make it a trip with the girls or even your siblings to go around and pick out some restaurants you haven’t been to and try something new. Maybe you’ll even find your new favorite food!

5. Take lots of naps!

Sleep is one thing that I and almost every other college student in the world get very little of. Take time this break to catch up on all the sleep that you did not get while studying for your midterms or doing those group projects. Sleep is so important and we do not get enough of it, so take advantage of the time off and take as many naps as humanly possible!

There are so many different activities and adventures you can go on even in your hometown. Even though you may be jealous of some of your friends being able to go to somewhere far and warm, take this time to relax. Take advantage of the time you have by yourself, catching up on things you may be behind on, and also exploring new things around your city or town with some of your closest friends.
