Homemade French Bread Pizza

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JCU chapter.

You might say I’m crazy for saying this but I am not a fan of pizza…at all…because it weighs me down and lowers my energy level right after the first grease-covered piece. However, when I was browsing Pinterest the other day, this recipe made my jaw-drop: pizza but without the grease and yuck of Papa John’s or Pizza Hut! If you are looking for healthier options for your lifestyle, but can’t shake your pizza cravings, check out this recipe for homemade French bread pizzas!

What To Get:

  • 6 whole Deli Rolls Or Crusty Italian Rolls
  •  Jarred Marinara Sauce Or Pizza Sauce
  •  Jarred Or Refrigerated Pesto
  • 2 pounds Mozzarella Cheese, Grated
  •  Grated Parmesan Cheese To Taste
  • 2 Tablespoons Butter
  • 1 whole Onion, Sliced
  • 1/2 pound Sausage (regular Breakfast Sausage Or Italian Sausage)
  •  Pepperoni Slices
  •  Canadian Bacon Slices
  •  Pineapple Chunks, Fresh Or Canned
  •  Roma Tomatoes, Sliced
  •  Sliced Black Olives
  •  Optional Ingredients: Goat Cheese, Sliced Bell Peppers, Various Cheeses, Pepperoncinis, Jalapeno Slices, Diced Red Onion, Any Other Pizza Topping You’d Like!

What To Do:

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees and cut your rolls in half. Then put them on a baking sheet.

Next, what you’re going to do is top each half with marinara sauce or pesto, whichever you’d like.

Then, pick your cheese and toppings!

Finally, put the baking pan on the bottom shelf of the oven once it is preheated for 8-10 minutes. After that, turn the heat all the way up to 425 and place the baking sheet on the top rack to watch the cheese bubble for a minute or so.

Voila! French bread pizza! Enjoy!
