How do you like being on the softball team? How is the season going?

The softball team has become more than a team for me, they are my family.  Practice is the best part of my day and I miss my teammates as soon as we leave.  My team, my family; they continue to be a blessing in my everyday life and the relationships I have made are lifelong.  The season has just begun.  We are currently .500 which isn’t anywhere near to our potential but it still isn’t terrible.  We’ve played some nationally ranked teams and put up some good fights.  The season is early and I’m happy with what we’ve done so far.

Is it difficult balancing softball with school work?

There are definitely times where I could use a few hours doing homework instead of playing a game but in the long run, softball is better for my school work.  Having softball gives me a scheduled day.  My entire day consists of meetings, practice, games, and class.  My whole day is planned out so instead of having time to watch Netflix and procrastinating homework, I know when I have to get school work done and when I have to get softball stuff done.  There is no time to waste and I have a scheduled time to do homework every day.  Procrastinating occurs when people have room to push things back.  Softball gives me the push I need in order to get things done.  My grades are actually better because of softball.

Are you part of any other clubs/activities at JCU?

I only really have time to invest myself in one other club on JCU’s campus.  I like to think my life consists of only a few things that I am very passionate about; softball, my faith, and family.  The club I’m involved in is called Cru.  It is an organization on campus that brings group bible studies to college students weekly.  We get together and talk about our faith and study the Bible.

What prompted you to go to John Carroll?

My brother went to John Carroll and he married the center fielder on the softball team.  The head coach changed and I had a good in on what she was like.  I knew I wanted to go into business and no other school I was looking at beat the Boler School of Business.  The area was perfect; not too in the middle of nowhere and not too close to the city.  My decision came down to John Carroll and Wittenberg and in the end I prayed about it the entire last day I had until I was forced to decide.  John Carroll just felt right.  I have no explanation of why, it was just put on my heart.

Favorite Part of JCU: My favorite part about JCU is the community.  I love being able to walk to class every day and see at least five people I know.  I love being in a small enough class where my professor learns my name on the first day if they don’t already know it.  I love being able to make plans with a professor and they take me in as if a part of their family.  I love JCU because we are men and woman for others and we stay true to our mission statement.

Hobbies: I love to be spontaneous.  There isn’t one thing that I would consider my hobby unless being spontaneous counts.  I love to try new things and go to events out of the ordinary. Going to plays, theatres, small city venues to see a musical artist that isn’t well known would all be an exciting night in my book.

Favorite Food: My favorite food is whatever my mom makes.  I am four hours from home so getting the chance to eat the best cooking in the world is priceless.

Relationship Status: Single

Perfect Date Night: My perfect date night is getting in a car, blasting the music, and driving to see where the night takes us.  Whether we end up in Walmart people watching or downtown singing karaoke, I just want to have fun.

Fun Fact: I have always owned a duck.  A pet duck.
