On the first Sunday of November we will set back the clocks Daylight savings- with this we will gain an hour of sleep! Daylight savings can be hard on the body and mind as it may alter your normal patterns of daylight exposure and can throws off our internal clocks.Preparing your body for when we turn back the clocks can ease the unpleasantness that comes with changing the clocks. Here are some easy ways I prepare myself to make the transition a bit easier.

Gently set a routine

A great way to help adjust your schedule is by starting to wake up while its still dark outside. This will help with the change in sunlight exposure as well as help you create a morning routine that will help you not only keep a schedule bit will also give you a sense of comfort and accomplishment to start your day!

Start nesting

During this time I turn my bedroom into a “nest” that has a sense of coziness in the evenings that also provides brightness as the outside darkens. To do this I bring out all of my favorite winter sheets, blankets, and cozy throw pillows. I hang some warm toned string lights that brighten the room while also being light on the eyes, and I change all of candles out for warm and cozy scents- I personally love anything that smells like fresh baked goods!

Self care

Leaning into slower self-care routines and allowing yourself to relax at home can help you view the upcoming winter as a natural season of rest throughout the holiday chaos. Long warm showers, taking time to read, face masks, enjoying a cup of tea and more can help add some relaxation to your routine.

Keep active

This is one that I personally have the most trouble with. As soon as summer is over I never want to keep running. Finding ways to move and workout while being stuck inside is a great way to keep yourself feeling good. Running is one of my favorite way to stay active but during the cold season I do yoga and pilates to keep moving!

bundle up!

Dressing for the weather can help you feel so much better! Dressing warm enough can make your walk to class a lot less daunting and can even be enjoyable! Slip on a warm jacket, your favorite boots, and cute accessories like hats and gloves can make all the difference. You might even start taking cold girl walks!

Self-healing season

I use winter as my favorite time to do some inner work. Being stuck inside is hard but using it to work through hard things has made not only the season but my everyday life more enjoyable! When I have trouble writing how I feel I use Pinterest to find writing prompts that appeal to how I’m feeling.
