Spring cleaning your dorm room is just as important (if not more) than cleaning your room at home. Spring is a time for new beginnings, fresh starts, and a clean slate. Having a tidy, clean space can help reduce stress, prevent illness, avoid allergies (from dust, mold, etc.), and promote happiness! Here are a couple tips and tricks to make sure your dorm room is as clean as can be.

1. Floors

Whether or not you have carpet, your dorm floors can be home to dust, hair, and dirt, some grime that is unseen to the naked eye. Mopping or vacuuming is a good start to your spring cleaning exhibition. For hardwood floors, use a Swiffer Wet Jet. This can help leave your hardwood floors squeaky clean. For carpets, sprinkle some baking soda or your favorite essential oil on your carpets and vaccuum. This will eliminate any bad odors setting up shop in your carpets.

2. Closets

Transition your clothes! It’s finally warm out so any bulky sweaters can be placed in that bin under your bed or sent home with your parents. If you’re feeling ambitious, get rid of clothes you know you will never wear again. Donate them or sell them and make some extra cash!

3. Desk

Go through any papers and books from last semester and kick them to the curb! Spring cleaning is the perfect time to get rid of any unwanted junk, especially on your desk. Productivity is ten times harder to achieve with a cluttered desk. If you’re unsure whether or not to get rid of certain assignments or papers, place them in a folder and stow them away for now. For pencils, books, staplers, and so on, consider investing in some desk storage to keep these supplies in reach, but not in the way!

4. Fridge

Check the expiration on all of your food and throw away what’s old. Old food can cause unwanted odors in the room and in such a small space, these odors can seem deadly. Replace any food that you won’t eat with foods you will eat! Head to the grocery store and pick out some of your favorite frozen dinners and store those in the freezer, instead of those half eaten pints of ice cream you’ll never touch again.

5. Redecorate

Spice up your dorm room with some new decorations once everything is clean, of course. Consider investing in some spring-scented candles or air fresheners. Maybe add more string lights or get a new comforter for your bed. Spring is about new beginnings – who knew this could start right from the comfort of your own room?Photo 1 | Photo 2 | Photo 3 | Photo 4 | Photo 5
