Being stuck inside has given me a lot of time to revisit some of my favorite songs. Most of the songs I’ve listed below are my mom’s favorites that have resurfaced as I’ve been spending a lot of time with her. I’ve been enjoying listening to some old bops and scream singing with her in the car on our daily drive around the neighborhood. The rest are some from my childhood that have remade their way into my brain from putting all my music on shuffle. Regardless, I hope this can help you bring back some old favorites.
1. “Rich Girl” — Daryl Hall and John Oates
Definitely one of those songs you can throw on in the car and can’t help but sing to. I’ve been singing this all around my house lately.
2. “We Didn’t Start The Fire” — Billy Joel
We didn’t start the fire gives me that sort of teenage angsty feeling. I feel like I’m ready to revolutionize the world when I’m singing along with Billy Joel and I think everyone can use that motivation right now.
3. “Hey Ya!”— OutKast
“Hey Ya!” is a dancing classic. If you’re like me, you remember this song on Just Dance and it still makes you want to jump around. OutKast truly outdid themselves with this one and it will forever be an upbeat anthem.
4. “Working for the Weekend” — Loverboy
I feel like this song can be related to what we’re going through right now. Everyone is working really hard to get life back to normal and celebrate all that we used to take for granted. I’ve definitely been able to see a new side of this song and I can’t wait to get to the weekend.
5. “Gives you Hell” — The All-American Rejects
For anyone with a bone to pick, this song is for you. Everyone knows it, everyone loves it and it will inevitably bring back your teenage rebellion phase.
6. “The B*tch is Back” — Elton John
I am a huge Elton John fan, so I’d be lying if I said I forgot about this song, but I think it’s notably underplayed. “The B*tch is Back” is the best hype up song and makes me feel very empowered.
7. “Breakeven” — The Script
This song is an absolute breakup classic and honestly can help anyone going through a time of loss. Aside from that, it’s a song that every can relate to. This song has been making it way back into my playlists recently.
8. “Chocolate” — The 1975
The cutest bop of the early 2000s has most definitely been forgotten about in the popular media. While The 1975 is still releasing great music today, “Chocolate” is a timeless tune. If you haven’t been listening to this song, you need to add it to your playlist.
