Looking Fab at Home! How to Master the Look of Lounge

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois chapter.

After having spent months on end stuck in quarantine, the last thing I can picture myself doing is putting on a pair of jeans.. ever again. Luckily, with all of the COVID madness still in full swing, we have only had to transition from wearing our pj’s 24/7 to comfy pants and a “presentable” top for Zoom calls. In this article, I’m going to be sharing a few tips on how to stay comfy but also stylish while working from home. You’d be surprised at how changing into a cute outfit can completely change your mood or make you have the urge to be more productive! So if you’re in the market to update your comfy wardrobe, keep on reading!

1. A Matching Set

Ahhh the outfit that’s been raved about by every influencer and Youtuber to grace the planet since quarantine started: the matching set. I have to admit, I’m totally obsessed with the trend myself. I mean who doesn’t love sweatpants, right? And for some reason, when your top and pants match, it just feels so much more put together and luxe. You can find these at pretty much every store you look at right now, but some of my favorites brands are Revolve, Lonely Ghost, The Mayfair Group and Pangaia.

2. Add Accessories

Every outfit looks better with added accessories, even when you’re laying around the house. Throw on a pair of earrings, a necklace, some rings, a hair scarf or any other accessory of your choosing. I promise you that even small things like jewelry will make your “work from home fit” feel so much more put together. At least that’s how everyone on the other side of your Zoom call will see it! I mean, think about it…a matching set with added accessories? That’s basically maximum effort in my book these days and it looks so darn cute!

3. When in Doubt, Crop It

Over true “quarantine”, I spent lots of my newfound downtime repurposing my old clothes since I was suddenly stuck wearing comfy clothes every single day (which I really wasn’t upset about). I did every trend out there from bleaching to tie dying to cutting my old shirts a million and one ways to turn it into something entirely new. But, my go to move when trying to revamp my closet without spending any money is to pull out a pair of scissors and crop anything and everything in sight. In my personal opinion, this method works quite well. That old t-shirt from that event you went to junior year of high school? Crop it. All those old t-shirts you got from visiting or having family members go to other colleges? Crop it. Your dad’s old oversized tee? Crop it! (or don’t because oversized tees are also very comfy & trendy). You get the point!
