Time flies and somehow we’ve already made it to Thanksgiving break! Just because we are still in the midst of a pandemic doesn’t mean that there aren’t ways to enjoy break at home. After all, you should show yourself some thanks for making it this far into the semester; you really deserve the break! Here are some ideas for activities to do with your family or whoever you are quarantining with during the holidays this year.

1. Catch up with family & friends over FaceTime or Zoom.

Since Thanksgiving is far from traditional this year and we can’t physically see all our loved ones, video calling them is the next best thing! You can even call them on Thanksgiving morning to watch the parade together while you’re all cozied up on the couch in your PJs. Or, if you’re not an early riser, you can grab a slice of pie and catch up after dinner. Either way, I’m sure your friends and relatives will really appreciate that you thought of them and are checking in.

2. Bake some sweet treats

There’s no better time than Thanksgiving to stuff yourself with tons of yummy food, so why not spend the day baking! You can stick to a traditional pumpkin pie if you want to be festive, or just whip up some brownies or cookies for everyone!

3. Go for walks

Bundle up and get some exercise outside. Don’t forget to bring some family members to admire nature with. If you’d rather go alone, though, listen to your favorite playlist or a podcast while you walk, and you’re sure to lose track of time. Plus, it’s a great way to get active and moving before Thanksgiving dinner.

4. Get ahead on Christmas shopping

Since you won’t be busy traveling or hopping from one family gathering to another, that leaves plenty of time to get ahead on shopping for the holidays! Make a cup of hot cocoa and browse online for gifts – your future self will thank you when you’re not scrambling to find everyone the perfect present at the last minute.

5. Have a movie/show marathon

Spending chilly days at home under a blanket and watching hours of Netflix is always tempting to me, and with all the free time you’ll have during break, there’s no reason not to. My current favorite show to binge watch is Gilmore Girls, and it’s perfect if you want all the fall vibes this season. If you want to squeeze in some pampering too, be sure to light some candles, put on a face mask, and do your nails during this cozy night in.
