By the end of June, my first year as a university student has officially came to an end. When I look back how this year went, the year passed much faster than I ever imagined, even though it was filled with countless new experiences, interactions and activities. Since I will never have the chance to experience being a first year university student in my life ever again, I would like to record my thoughts and reflections in this article.

Friendship

As almost everyone does, I was also worried about whether I would be able to make friends that are getting on well with me, especially since fewer students enroll at the university in September. However, I’m sure that if my past self could see my current friendship, she would probably be surprised. I have met people who share similar life experiences, have a wonderful sense of humour, and are incredibly generous, kind, and understanding. Getting into my dream university has allowed me not only to take fascinating academic courses, but also to meet amazing people who make me genuinely motivated to go to university every single day. Looking back, I have realized that friendships I have built have become such a crucial and valuable part of my University life.

My Interests

Since I have always been interested in a wide range of academic fields, I decided to go to the university that offers Liberal Arts program. Yet, even after a year taking courses across different fields, I still have not decided which major I want to pursue specifically. When I entered the university, I believed that taking Liberal Arts courses would help me discover the one passion I want to dedicate myself to. Instead, I realized that my curiosity for various different subjects has remained unchanged. However, rather than identifying specific majors or careers I dive into, I have gradually started to understand what kind of person I want to become in the future. Therefore, I can say that I still have a lot to learn and contemplate about myself from now on, that will lead me to my future.

Time Management

After getting into university, I found that life was much busier than I had expected to be, especially if I registered for courses for first period classes and Saturday classes. Of course, assignments, studying for tests, and hanging out with friends, and enjoying my freedom that the university offers compared to high school, are crucial, but I often run out of time. In the end, the only thing I could sacrifice was my sleeping time. This made me realize that trying to be active in every aspect of university life while neglecting my health would eventually make me exhausted.  Therefore, from now on, I want to improve my time management skills so that I can balance my academic life, friendships and my well-being without compromising my sleep.

Final Thoughts

Looking back on my first year of university has reminded me how much my environment changed over the past year. I know that there is still so much to put in effort both academically and personally. In order to continue searching for the path I want to follow, I hope to keep growing and updating myself by regularly reflecting  on my experiences.
