Spring Break – Skin Break!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at HPU chapter.

For college students, spring break can mean so many different things. Whether it’s jet-setting to the nearest adventure destination, sleeping all day and partying it up all night, laying out on the beach in your best kini and fav book, or lounging in your pj’s binge watching that Netflix show you’ve been meaning to catch up on – I think we can all agree on one thing: spring break is a cleanse. So cleanse your mind, your spirit, and most of all, your skin!

Try some of these low-maintenance skin care tips over spring break to give your skin a week off, or Google some of your own too.

Tip #1: Most obvious tip – ditch your makeup bag for the week!

This can be quite hard and maybe even uncomfortable, especially if you’re a social butterfly on spring break, and are constantly on the go. As much as you may love your #beatface and #cakedface, don’t forget to embrace your natural skin for all it’s natural glory and glow. Spring break is the perfect opportunity to go makeup-free without having your classmates or coworkers ask you if you’re tired/ok/whatever else. It will also allow your skin to detoxify from any chemicals in makeup products, leaving you with cleaner and healthier skin.

Tip #2: Water cleanse – lemon water variation.

We all know the benefits of water and the magic it works for our skin. From keeping our skin cells hydrated, plumping it to keep wrinkles away, and flushing impurities and toxins – I’m sure we’ve heard it all before that WATER. IS. GOOD. So let’s take it to the next level: lemon water. Not only does lemon water give your immune system a nice boost in the morning, the antioxidants from the Vitamin C in lemon water do double the work. They fight damage caused by free radicals and keeps your body producing collagen, thus keeping your skin looking fresh!

Tip #3: Don’t forget the sunscreen and moisturizer.

Wherever you are this spring break, remember to protect your skin from the sun! Even in cloudy/overcast weather, you are still exposed to potentially harmful UV rays. A good combination moisturizer AND sunscreen is the easiest no-brainer and packing essential (for you jet-setters). SPF 30 or anything higher is your lucky number.

Tip #4: Get sweating!

Exercise, among all its other benefits, is good for your skin. Fit a brisk jog into your day, hit the gym, do some sun salutations – anything to get the blood flowing and you can bask in the benefits of vibrant skin and stress management if your breakouts are stress induced. Plus, the bonus of the endorphins released from exercise is that it will boost your confidence to embrace Tip #1!!

Tip #5: Treat yourself to skincare!

Whether it’s a new mask you want to try or a new product that your favorite YouTuber raves about, now is the time to get it. I personally hate the trial period where my skin has to get used to a new product so spring break is the perfect opportunity to switch up routines. My recommendation is Pixi Glow Tonic (don’t mind if I glowwwt about it). It has Glycolic Acid that exfoliates and purifies the skin, Ginseng to improve circulation, and aloe vera to soothe and hydrate for a brighter, glowing complexion. You can get the 3.4 fl oz bottle from Target for $15 and I swear by my life – this toner is a holy grail product.

These are just 5 simple tips amongst the plethora of skin care advice out there. Find the healthy beauty routines that you love, but more importantly, that work for you. Spring break or not, treat yourself to a lil extra T-L-C!
