‘grown-ish’ Freeform; Season 1

The spinoff to ABC’s Black-ish, stars college-aged Zoey, played by Yara Shahidi. The show takes viewers into the matriculation of college freshman and the problems they face throughout. Some of the issues touched on include learning to fit in, drug addiction, and the struggle to reveal sexuality. Within the show’s racially diverse cast includes familiar faces, including singer & actor Trevor Jackson and model Luka Sabbat.

Grown-ish creator, Kenya Barris, tells Vanity Fair: “A Different World, for me, was in a lot of ways responsible for me going to college,” and hopes grown-ish does the same for others.

The series airs every Wednesday at 8pm/7c on Freefrom.

‘The Quad’ BET; Season 2

Season 1 of BET’s The Quad, stirred up a lot of controversy as some viewers felt the show represented HBCUs in a negative light. As they say, all publicity is good publicity, because the drama-filled show was renewed for a second season.

The Quad tells the story of Georgia A&M’s newly appointed president, Dr. Eva Fletcher (played by Anika Noni Rose), who is trying to bring the HBCU out of potential bankrupt. Amid such an important task, she also must deal with the institute’s ongoing issues among its students including rape, false accusations, hazing, and other real-life college controversies.

Viewers will continue to follow the stories behind these problems to see how they’re resolved during the next semester at Georgia A&M. Season 2 of The Quad airs Tuesday, January 23 at 9pm/10c on BET.

‘Teyana & Iman’ VH1; Season 1

In 2017, black love was in full effect as fans watched their favorite entertainers display their love lives all over social media. This has been an advantage for one of those couples as they make their way to our big screens in 2018.

R&B singer & model, Teyana Taylor, and NBA player, Iman Shumpert, are letting fans into their life as they star in their own reality show titled Teyana & Iman. Fans will get to see the newlyweds on their everyday ventures while raising their daughter, Junie.

Teyana & Iman airs Monday, February 19 10pm/11c on VH1.

‘Him or Her,’ ‘Sweet Life,’ & More HBO; Season 1

Issa Rae has had an amazing run with her HBO hit series Insecure. She has now been given the opportunity to executive produce more shows for the network including 2 series titled Him or Her and Sweet Life.

Him or Her is a 30-minute show about a bisexual black man as he steers through his love life while trying to find himself. Sweet Life (co-created by Scandal producer, Raamla Mohamed), is an hour-long drama about teens in the “the Black Beverly Hills” that is Windsor Hills in Los Angeles, CA. It has also been reported that Issa Rae has another show in the works about a black family in L.A. making the through the 90s.

Be on the lookout for these series set to release soon on HBO.

‘The Chi’ SHOWTIME; Season 1

Showtime has a new show based on a neighborhood out of the southside of Chicago. The Chi (written by Master of None’s Lena Waithe and executive produced by rapper, Common) goes deep into the lives of those that live in the marginalized neighborhood. The drama series features The Wire’s Sonja Sohn and singer & actor, Jacob Latimore.

The Chi airs every Sunday at 10pm/11c on SHOWTIME.
