Why Every College Student Should Go on a Retreat

Last week I completed my second retreat of the school year and I honestly cannot recommend the experience enough. As a freshman, it has helped me find myself and grow in my relationships with others. I really hope that others can have the same amazing experience I’ve had, and if you need a reason to go, I’ve compiled a list of some reasons why you should sign up for a retreat.

  1. Reflection

Going on a retreat, no matter the type, provides great time and space for a reflection. Most, if not all, retreats are somewhat centered around a sort of personal reflection either in a group or individual setting. Especially in college, it is so, so, so important to set aside time for yourself to get in touch with your emotions, and the retreat setting forces you to take that time.

  1. New Friends

No matter the style or focus of the retreat, new friends can be found in any retreat setting. During activities, meals, or even in passing in the halls, new connections can be found anywhere. At both retreats I attended I made new friends and strengthened bonds I had already made.

  1. Change of Scenery

No matter where you go to college, a change of scenery is always welcome. Getting out of the university and going to a fresh place can be incredibly beneficial to both emotional and physical health and developing a new mindset.

Whatever reason or motivation you find to get yourself to a retreat, just go with it. I promise you it’ll be worth your while.
