Cusps aren’t real. Yes, we said it. According to Annabel Gat, a senior astrologer at Vice, cusps are not real because astrology is a system of rules that cannot be changed and does not allow for a planet to be in two signs at once. For example, if you are born on November 20th, you are in between both Scorpio season and Sagittarius season, but that does not mean that your sun sign is both of these signs.

People who say they are cusps may feel that they have equal parts of both signs, or that they relate more to their neighboring sun sign. Your sun sign can only be one sign because it is based on your exact time of birth. The sun’s location is never ambiguous, so it is either in one sign or the other, not both at the same time.

The myth of cusps became so popular because astrology is complex and takes years to learn. But, the more popular astrology got, the more over-simplified it became. It could have also become popular because some people don’t know their exact birth time, which is crucial when making a birth chart and trying to find out your exact sun sign. Also, the sun shifts in movement every year, so the time that the sun moved from Scorpio season into Sagittarius season may not be the same in 20 years.

Some of you may be asking, “Then why do I feel like a cusp?” We will explain. Your whole birth chart is made up of all the planets in different signs and houses and it is personalized for you and only you. To use the previous example, you were born on November 20th and although you’re a Scorpio, you feel more like a Sagittarius. It could be that your personal planets are all in Sagittarius. But, this does not override that you are in fact a Scorpio.

We are officially in Pisces season, which means it’s time to embrace our creative sides and escape reality. For Pisces, this is your time to thrive! Get in touch with your emotions and take this opportunity to turn your dreams into a reality. Set goals, paint or sing, do whatever makes you happy.

For the rest of the signs, grab your tissues! This will be a time where you may feel extra sensitive and emotional. Tears will be shed and you may find yourself lost inside your dreams. Take this opportunity to express yourself, whether that be through writing or the arts.
