If you thought that the first three seasons of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives were chaotic, just wait until you watch the latest season. What started as following these Mormon mommy influencers has now evolved into friendship, relationship, and business drama.
Toxic Relationships and Explosive Revelations
Season 4 took a deep dive into many of the love lives of these Mormon couples with the pressure of reality TV starting to get to them. Jessi Draper, who had revealed during season three that she had an emotional affair with Vanderpump Villa star Marciano, was a victim of this. Her former affair continued to impact her marriage with Jordan Ngatikaura.
She was not the only one, though. Mikayla Mathews and her husband, Jace, revealed they were separating because of deeply personal struggles. The constant being in the public eye was also wearing on both of them, and they hoped that time would help their relationship.
This doesn’t even include Taylor Frankie Paul, and Dakota Mortensen, the extremely toxic couple that has been on-again, off-again for the entirety of the series. This season, it was announced that Taylor would be the star of The Bachelorette, but prior to leaving, she had slept with Dakota multiple times, leaving her with a pregnancy scare at the end of the season.
Cracks Form in #MomTok Friendships
Relationships weren’t the only issue of the season, with many of the friendships having drama and riffs. While in LA for Dancing with the Stars, Whitney Leavitt and Jen Affleck were having issues because of the competition. While both girls wanted to be on the show, Whitney was able to get further in the competition than Jen, which sparked jealousy and fights between the two.
Taylor Frankie Paul’s true colors were also on display when she screamed at Miranda Hope over the phone after her baby daddy slept with one of Miranda’s longtime friends. This messy moment was out of Miranda’s control and she only withheld the information for a few days, before Taylor found out. This moment showed how the group dynamics were falling apart because of friendships outside of #MomTok.
By the end of the season, all of #MomTok seemed fed up with Taylor’s behavior, with her sleeping with Dakota multiple times, even though she knew it wouldn’t be good for her or for the girls’ brand. They even showed up at her house after she didn’t get on the plane to CA for the Bachelorette filming. Many people who watched this episode were also confused about why she would say yes to being the Bachelorette when she was still sleeping with her baby daddy.
As the show continues to grow its audience, the opportunities for many of the girls are growing as well. Unfortunately this means that many of the opportunities will become competitions between them. The season still had vulnerable moments, and they were able to be there for each other, opening up about mental health, body image, and navigating religion in a modern world.
Off-Screen Drama Post Season 4
Since season 4 aired, the drama has definitely not subsided. Taylor Frankie Paul is now facing legal issues after a video was released of her throwing a chair at her baby daddy, which almost hit her daughter. This led to her season of The Bachelorette not airing. The cast also stopped filming season 5 due to the controversy. It could have been a breakout moment for the cast, but it is now impacting the future of the entire show.
Additionally, Jordan Ngatikaura filed for divorce from Jessi after the season was released. She then went on Alex Cooper’s “Call Her Daddy ” podcast to explain the situation and what actually happened between the two of them. She was able to gain control of the story herself instead of having false propaganda spread by her soon-to-be ex-husband.
After the divorce was announced, Jessi was hanging out with Chase McWhorter (who also happens to be Miranda’s Ex-Husband), and it was revealed that they had made out. What happened after this is yet to be seen, fans are frustrated with both Chase and Jessi, and are sending love to Miranda.
What’s next for #MomTok?
Season 4 proved that the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives is about more than just messy drama, but about pressure, identity, and how living a public life can impact a person. Because of the events following the finale, the drama definitely never ends.
Hopefully, Season 5 will get the green light to restart filming soon, all of this drama will resolve itself, and #MomTok will make it out alive.
