Welcome back to the Spring Semester! I hope your break was filled with excitement an adventure…or at least a lot of sleep and relaxation.

The month we had off also had a lot of new song releases, one of the songs being “Hands to Myself,” by Selena Gomez. I have heard mixed reviews about this song, but my personal belief is that this really is a good song. Selena Gomez has come a long way since her debut on Disney Channel. Her music has grown and matured, and I personally think after her breakup with Justin, her inspiration got better and her songs did as well. I don’t necessarily think this song was inspiration from the breakup, since it’s about wanting to put her hands on someone, but maybe it is about Bieber. She is saying “the doctors say you’re no good, but people say what they wanna say.” Or maybe it’s about some new boy? Well hopefully we can assume she’s moved on? The only part I found “odd” about this song was the one lyric where she says “Can’t keep my hands to myself, well I could, but why would I want to?” I do understand that she is physically capable to keep her hands to herself, but I don’t think it blended with the song well.
Aside from that, I think this is a super catchy song; it’s been stuck in my head several times already. I’ve heard it in a couple commercials here and there, so Gomez is definitely getting publicized pretty well. I can’t say this is the best song to dance to, but I think it can fit into the category of pump-up music, a preparation song for your exciting night out! For those Gomez fans, or those who like her music, I’d say this is in the middle of her best songs, and when you’re getting ready, I really hope you’re feeling yourself, looking like your hot self, feeling confident. Gomez is known for that kind of attitude, and I hope you feel that same way!
