Transitioning Your Closet from Winter to Spring

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

Spring has officially sprung, meaning it’s finally time to break out your white jeans and pastel blouses in honor of the warm weather. But that doesn’t mean you have to totally convert your closet right away. Your favorite winter knits and ankle boots can still be spring wardrobe staples before they get stored away for next season. Making the transition from winter to spring can be fun without breaking your bank and buying a completely new wardrobe. Here are some tips on how you can transform your springtime fashion with the help of some of your winter staples.

Add a pop of color

Replace your neutral winter hues with pops of color, from pastels to neons, to transform any look to an appropriate spring ensemble. Whether it’s in a statement necklace, a handbag, like Amal Clooney, or even a skirt or blouse, a pop of color against a neutral backdrop is one of the best ways to make your outfit suitable for the season.

Layer up

Don’t send your cardigans and jackets home yet; these are the perfect fixes for when the cold weather creeps back in. Throw on a cardigan over a blouse or a sundress, or wear one over a light chambray button up for an ensemble that’s perfect for the spring weather.

Mix prints

Mixing prints can be daunting, but when done correctly it makes a bold statement perfect for the changing seasons. The key to mixing prints successfully is to find prints that share a similar color scheme. Choose one piece with a large print to start, and then find another piece with a smaller print so that they don’t overpower each other. The same colors will balance each other, while the opposing prints will complement each other, as seen in this outfit from LC Lauren Conrad.

Stock up on light-weight knits

Not all of your favorite sweaters have to be stored away until the weather is permanently cold again. A lightweight knit is the perfect way to stay warm and still look summery. Tuck it into a skirt or pair it with light wash jeans and sandals or ankle booties to complete the look.

Grab a bold accessory

The transition of the seasons is the perfect time to debut a bold new accessory that is dying to be worn outside of your closet. Whether it be mirrored sunglasses, a bright spring scarf, or a quirky handbag, like this Kate Spade handbag designed to look like a pot of roses, statement accessories are perfect for this time of the year.
