“TOP FIVE” Movies of 2014

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

In honor of the new film Top Five being released in theaters, we put together a top five list of our own! Check out the trailer to the new movie, starring Chris Rock and Rosario Dawson here and then head to the theaters for a good laugh in between studying for your finals.

Taken from IMDB, this list contains the top five movies that have made the most money in theaters so far this year! How many have you seen?

1. Guardians of the Galaxy

To be honest, I had never heard about this movie until I looked up this list and found it was number one, and now I just might have to watch it! The basis of the movie is a group of space criminals (who knew there was such a thing) working together to stop the villain from destroying the entire galaxy. Better yet, there is a trio of hotties in this movie – Chris Pratt, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper!

2. Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Captain America was a movie that everyone went CRAZY for when it first hit theaters. Based on the original comic, Steve Rogers (played by Chris Evans) is embracing his new role in the modern world. If you’re into superheroes and Chris Evans, this movie was made for you.

3. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1

The much anticipated third movie in Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games series did not disappoint. Grossing 261 million dollars in the box office just goes to prove that everyone is still waiting to see whom Katniss chooses – Peeta or Gale. (That is, if you didn’t read the book!)

4. The Lego Movie

A surprising film that did incredible in theaters was The Lego Movie, which brought out more than just families and young children. It seemed as if everyone enjoyed this animated film, where a Lego construction worker is trying to stop a villain from gluing the Lego Universe together forever.

5. Transformers: Age of Extinction

While there were certainly mixed opinions on the fourth Transformers movie, it still brought out large crowds to the movie theaters to check it out. Optimus Prime turns to a new group of humans for help against a bounty hunter.
