The Most Karl Lagerfeld Inspired Looks of the 2023 Met Gala

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

The 2023 Met Gala carried some of the most on-theme looks of the red carpet, despite the controversies facing this year’s Met Gala theme, Karl Lagerfeld, who is known for many experimental designs for Chanel but his most famous design: the current Chanel logo.

The common trends of the night, taken from Lagerfeld’s design style, were black and white, experimental materials and textures (tweed, feathers, various metals, sparkle, etc.), unique silhouettes, and some of Karl Lagerfeld’s own designs. Most attendees used inspiration from Lagerfeld’s past designs and made it their own.

Here are some of the most on-theme looks that were inspired by Karl Lagerfeld’s work:

Jeremy Pope in Balmain and Cartier
Jenna Ortega wearing Thom Browne and Marli Jewelry
Jennie Kim in Chanel
Anne Hathaway in Versace and Bulgari
Margot Robbie in Chanel
Cardi B in Chenpeng Studio
Lizzo in Chanel
Ben Platt in Wiederhoeft, Christian Louboutin, and David Yurman
Dua Lipa in Chanel
Amy Fine Collins in Thom Browne and Verdura jewelry
Gisele Bรผndchen in Chanel
Conan Gray in Balmain

And of course, all the attendees who honored Karl Lagerfeld by wearing his pieces:

Brian Tyree Henry in Karl Lagerfeld
Michelle Yeoh in Karl Lagerfeld and Cartier
Jared Leto in Karl Lagerfeld
Amber Valletta in Karl Lagerfeld and Brilliant Earth jewelry
Manu Rios in Karl Lagerfeld
Alton Mason in Karl Lagerfeld Couture
Cara Delevingne in Karl Lagerfeld and Stuart Weitzman shoes
