Like most people I know, I am very much addicted to social media and scrolling. The endless hours I have spent awake late at night scrolling TikTok have gotten to the point where I need to find hobbies and activities that don’t involve my phone. I went back to my roots of crafting and finding fun ways to express my creativity. Here are 5 easy crafts that you can do if you want to find a new hobby just like me!
Paint by Number
Paint by Number is a longstanding craft for a reason. I remember doing many color-by-number crafts as a child, but seeing the adult painting versions now brings back a certain nostalgia for me. This is a craft you don’t need to be artistically inclined to do. Each section is labeled with a number that corresponds to a color, and all you have to do is fill it in. It’s a great way to unwind and feel creative without too much thinking or pressure.
Diamond Art
Diamond Art is one of the most relaxing crafts you can try, especially if you want to craft without having to think too hard. It’s similar to paint-by-numbers, but instead of paint, you put rhinestones on a sticky canvas to create a predetermined image. This is one of the more time consuming crafts, but I like to do it while listening to music or an audiobook. The final results always turn out amazing, and being able to turn off your mind while doing it makes it even more relaxing.
Embroidery
Embroidery is a more detailed craft, which is part of what makes it so calming. You can create simple designs and patterns, or personalize your bags and clothes with custom designs or initials. This is a fun option if you want something quiet and repetitive to focus on, and it’s easy to start with beginner kits that have instructions.
Punch Needle
Punch needle is a different take on embroidery that creates a textured design. It looks more complicated at first, but once you get the hang of it, it is pretty straightforward. You can make wall hangings, coasters and decorative pieces with a simple kit.
Scrapbooking & Junk Journaling
Scrapbooking and Junk Journaling are the perfect crafts if you like collecting photos and scraps and turning them into something more creative. You can use photos, stickers, receipts, and even trash to design the pages. This craft has no rules, which makes it so freeing, and it’s a great way to disconnect from your phone. This is a great way to document a trip or a fun period of your life.
At the end of the day, finding hobbies that don’t involve your phone can feel harder than it should be, but it is worth it. Whether you want something repetitive and relaxing, like diamond art, or more creative like junk journaling, there is something for everyone.
