This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

A huge trend on TikTok right now involves users making compilations and playlists full of “songs you forgot about.” Usually, these include pop and club songs from the late 2000s through early 2010s that tend to evoke a certain sense of nostalgia to older members of Gen Z. We decided to hop on the trend and make our own playlist!

All of these songs bring feelings of nostalgia – listening to the radio on the car ride to Costco. Pop of this era has a certain feel to it; you can immediately recognize what time it was from. For many current college kids, artists like Jason Derulo, Pitbull, Justin Timberlake, Kesha, and many many more remind them of their childhood. There are a few artists currently remaking that early 2000 – 2010s pop sound, so, if you liked this playlist and want to reminisce about this era, check out the artists listed below!

Chappell Roan

  • She makes that classic girly, pink, hyper-feminine pop that dominated the earlier 2000s. Except, her lyrics are updated for a modern, sapphic audience. She is one of our favorite queer artists at the moment and is definitely worth checking out.

Kim Petras and Slayyyter

  • These two are embracing that “trashy”, hyper-pop from the likes of Madonna, Brittany Spears, and many other iconic female artists. Everything from their music to their aesthetic/image is sure to remind you of that music that you know and love.

Sitting On Stacy

  • If you love that early 2000s pop punk vibe that iconic bands like YellowCard, Bowling for Soup, The Killers, and Jimmy Eat World pioneered, Sitting on Stacy is a great band to adopt if you’re looking to fill that void. Our personal favorite is Dinner Party, it has that classic pop punk feel that everyone knows and loves, mixed with reggae and 2020s indie.

Martin Garrix, Sick Individuals, Steve Brian – specifically the album 1986, KAAZE, Bunt

  • If you’re looking for progressive house music to remind you of the early 2010s house scene, these are some great, current artists putting out music with a similar feel.
