Should I Care if My Partner and I Aren’t Astrologically Compatible?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

If your relationship isn’t written in the stars, is it really a big deal? Some believe that your zodiac sign could be a deal breaker. There are signs that get along a lot easier than others, but that does not mean these astrologically incompatible partners will never work out. It simply means you must put more effort into making it work than others might have to. Not all relationships come easy and many times the amount of difficulty for the two of you to stay a couple does depend on your signs.

By definition, compatible means, “able to exist or occur together without conflict.” But, if your signs are not compatible, does that mean you shouldn’t be together? Absolutely not. Almost all relationships require work and time to perfect. Now, this doesn’t mean it’s okay to be with someone who treats you like dirt just because it could possibly get better. What I mean by this is if both of you are willing to try and get better for one another, then it can happen.

Those with similar sun signs are usually drawn to one another. They are alike in so many ways that on the surface it just makes sense that they match up. On the other hand, considering compatibility for the sign opposite yours(where your half birthday lies) could pair an odd but powerful duo. I’m sure you have all heard the saying that “opposites attract”  for many people that is true. The differences between the two balances out and makes a dynamic couple.

On top of that, your sun sign is only a fraction of what makes up your personality astrologically. To see truly how compatible the stars claim you to be, you must find out your entire natal chart. This chart gives you three big elements that affect who you are as a person: your sun, moon, and rising signs. It would be an extremely good idea to take your moon sign into account when it comes to more committed relationships. This sign basically describes your inner feelings and how you get your needs met. When a partnership goes past the dating phase and becomes much more serious, this is when it might be smart to see how your moon signs align.

There is so much more to astrology than just your sun sign, or as most people know it as their Zodiac sign. A majority of people don’t look further than that when coming up with conclusions about others. That is all wrong because you need to read your entire chart for your astrological connections to be of any value. Every part of your chart plays a factor in who you are as a person, which is probably why some of you don’t believe much in astrology. For example, if you’ve ever read about your sun sign, and thought that you don’t feel 100% as they said, it could be because your moon sign is affecting your inner personality deep down.

The entire natal chart is going to affect how a person acts in a relationship. This will then determine your compatibility with your partner. But even if your charts do not align, that does not mean you should stop seeing them. It simply means that this relationship wasn’t written in the stars. There are still ways to make it work. If you love each other then astrology can’t take that away. Your personalities might not seem fit to be together, but if you’re willing to work through anything and live life side by side, then it will be alright.

Kayla is a junior at Hofstra University, majoring in journalism and minoring in creative writing and public relations. She has a passion for writing and traveling. A future aspiration of hers consists of becoming a travel writer, or working for a magazine. If you ever need to find her, I recommend checking the mall because she loves spending all her money on clothes that she doesn't need. When not shopping, she can be found watching something on Disney Plus(probably Tangled).
