Safe Yet Spooky! 5 Halloween Themed Mocktails

Witches are flying, monsters are running, and ghosts are yet to be seen. Halloween is fast approaching and so are all of those costume parties, scary movie nights, and nights out with your friends. Not to worry collegiates, these 5 easy drink recipes will win you the hostess award, and bring creatures swarming to you.

The Chinese Firebolt:

This Harry Potter inspired drink is bound to bring people running to your dorm room for Halloween, or rather flying on their broomsticks, chasing a snitch. The snitch is nothing far from this simple fruity drink. Prep time is about five minutes, so not to worry collegiates; you can make this drink between classes if you’re pressed for time. You only need a few ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon of cherry syrup
  • 1 tablespoon of lime juice
  • 1 can of bottled soda (like coke or pepsi)
  • 1 slice of lemon

Mix all of these together and you have an easy to prepare, sizzling drink. Make lots, because you can be sure that wizards will come flying to your room to get some. 

Witches Brew:

You have your ghosts and maybe a few zombies, but by far one of the most popular costume choices of all ages, is the witch. Flying in on a broomstick with a pointed hat, this drink will cast a spell on all of your guests, one that will make any night full of mystery and fun. Grab a plastic glove, some juice, and your magical spells to make this delightful drink:

  • 1 ten ounce package of raspberries
  • 2 and ½ cups of cranberry juice
  • 2 packages of unflavored gelatin
  • 2 liters of ginger ale
  • 2 liters of sparkling cider
  • 6 gummy snakes

Combine all of the liquids and leave in a punch bowl. Fill a plastic glove with juice and freeze overnight, place in the bowl to serve. Garnish the bowl with gummy snakes and candy. Be careful though, the witch just might grab you as you pour a drink.

The Vampire Bite:

This drink is perfect for the creatures that stay up all night, or for those who just happen to like red punch with a twist. Sure to bite you with an ounce of fun, the vampire bite is perfect for all Halloween parties. It only takes moments to prepare, so save this for the last thing you make, and it will quench the thirst of your guests for hours. Whether you are throwing a party, or just enjoying scary movies with a few friends, make this drink to spice up the evening of horror. Preparation time is about five minutes:

  • 2 cups of chilled cranberry juice
  • ½ cup of chilled apple juice
  • ¼ cup of cherry syrup
  • 1 and ½ cups of chilled seltzer water
  • 1 tube of red candy gel
  • 4 gummy vampire teeth

Combine all of the liquids and mix thoroughly, distribute among cups. Garnish the edge of the glasses with red candy gel and vampire teeth. Relax and enjoy.

The Ghouls Green Drink:

Want a cool drink to make the evening chilly and fall-like? This drink is nothing short of perfect with its lime sherbet and fog covering the bowl. Ghosts will come flying, so beware, this drink is made for those who run through walls and dance the night away. Keep the creatures away from it for as long as you can, because before you know it the drink will be gone in a flash. It is perfect to make in just a few steps:

  • 2 cups ice
  • 1 liter bottle of caffeinated citrus soda (Mountain Dew is perfect)
  • ¼ cup of lime sherbet

Mix all of these together, and stir the sherbet to preference. And watch out for the spooky ghosts that will swarm the punch bowl over this recipe.

Butterbeer:

            Harry Potter will make another grand appearance at your party with this famous drink. Everyone knows butterbeer from near and far, and you can be sure to have tons of guests lining up for a sip of this drink. Require each guest to say a classic Harry Potter spell before they can have a glass and the night is sure to be full of laughs. Although don’t jump too quickly to this recipe, because as always good things take time, and this recipe is a time commitment. Make sure to prepare this well ahead of the party so you aren’t rushing around. But this drink is well worth the effort, it will bring friends of all kinds to celebrate the night. Here are the ingredients:

  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of water
  • 6 tablespoons of butter
  • ½ teaspoon of salt
  • ½ teaspoon of cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup of heavy cream
  • ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 4 cans of bottles of cream soda
