Rise and Shine! The Perks Of Being A Morning Person In College

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

Are you one of those people that get angry every morning when you hear that dreadful alarm sound? Me too. On top of jobs, internships, classes, relationships and trying not to gain the “freshman 15” as a college senior we have to find the time to sleep! With so much to do and so little time we often find ourselves falling asleep late and waking up even later. However, changing that can actually be quite simple! Plus waking up early in college can have its advantages.

1. BREAKFAST!

Your mother has probably said once or twice that breakfast is the most important meal of the day…that is because it is. Having a nutritious breakfast can set your mood for the rest of the day and there are so many delicious foods to choose from…omelets, fruits, bagels, yogurt the list goes on and on. Plus breakfast is known to stimulate brain activity and help control your metabolism.

2. Get your “to do” list done!

The sun is rising and you’ve already had breakfast, now what? Homework, cleaning, laundry, internship work, calling mom and dad – the possibilities are endless. By waking up earlier you have the entire morning to get through what needs to be done! And then you have the rest of the day to relax and binge watch your favorite show on Netflix.

3. Creating a “normal” sleep schedule.

Lets face it, college has turned us into zombies that stay up until 3 a.m. and sleep in until 3 p.m. That will not fly in the real world! Once you graduate and get dropped into the real world your body clock is going to have to vastly change, which can be very challenging; all the more reason to start NOW. Go to bed at a decent hour and wake up early! Your body will thank you in the long run.

4. Happy Happy Happy!

Waking up early may sound dreadful at first, but once you start doing it you will realize your overall mood changes. Starting your day off on the right foot is so important to your daily mood. If you’re in a good mood you are more likely to be more productive in your classes and at your internship!
