After studying abroad in London for 5 months, I traveled on the tube every single day I was there. I rode each line, so I decided to rank which were my favorites and which needed a help.
12. Waterloo & City
While adequate for getting from Waterloo to Bank, this line has only two stops and therefore receives the last spot on this list. This line is short and quick but not as effective as others.
11. Circle
Known for its looping tracks, this line covers many key central stations but takes its time, and it’s easy to get lost or go in the wrong direction.
10. District
The district line spans large parts of London, which has its positives and negatives. It has frequent delays, making it less reliable for people running short on time.
9. Metropolitan
Fast and Comfortable, the Metropolitan is essential for daily commutes but less so for visiting people around London. The trains are larger, offering more room for peak hours.
8. Hammersmith and City
This line is a straightforward route across northern London. It’s more reliable than others, but nothing in particular stands out.
7. Bakerloo
This line gets a lot of hate for its dated trains, which could use a remodel. It is reliable and valid, particularly around the Paddington and Oxford Circus Stations.
6. Central
The Central line is one of the busiest in the city, connecting the most popular areas of London. It’s fast, but the cars are incredibly crowded and very warm.
5. Piccadilly
Piccadilly serves a significant purpose, connecting all of central London to London Heathrow Airport. However, it is prone to delays, and the cars are often older.
4. Jubilee
The Jubilee Line is well known for connecting some of the most popular stations, like Westminster and London Bridge. Many people love it for its sleek, new stations and its relatively fast service.
3. Victoria
One of the fastest train lines, the Victoria Line is highly reliable and suitable for quick travel across London.
2. Northern
The northern line has two branches, making it easier to reach places across the city, and it is a personal favorite of mine after using it every day while studying abroad in London.
1. Elizabeth
The newest tube line is the most impressive, with a smooth ride, clean look, and spacious cars. It connects major areas across London and directly to Heathrow Airport. It is raising the bar for future lines across London.
Hopefully, this article will guide you on what to do when you find yourself in London, whether you are sightseeing, working, or seeking underrated gems.
