Profile: Gabrielle Burgess ’16

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

Name: Gabrielle Burgess

Year: 2017

Hometown: Dracut, Massachusetts

Major/Minors: Dance

What are you involved in on campus?

I am part of the resident dance club called MoVoM, which stands for “Mind Over Vision Over Movement.” We participate in the department student repertory show, which I have both choreographed for and performed in. I also perform in the fall and spring dance faculty concerts, as well as in the Danceworks spring and fall shows, and am part of the National Honor Society for Dance Arts.

Most played song?

Definitely a tie between “Just Got Paid” by N*SYNC and “Rivers and Roads” by The Head and the Heart.

Best class you’ve taken at Hofstra?

Either Kinesiology for Dancers or Black and White Film Photography. However what is the best is being able to study both ballet and modern dance from such a wide variety of instructors every semester.

What’s your favorite book?

Probably “Catcher in the Rye” by J.D. Salinger.

What’s your strangest talent?

I always remember people’s birthdays, and I’m very good at guessing anything.

What is the best concert/show/play you’ve ever been to?

There are so many! Any dance concert that has pieces by different choreographers on the bill is always so enticing. One of the best I have been to was Fall for Dance at the New York City Center.

Favorite on campus food?

I love soup! Every time Au Bon Pain has a new one I have to try it.

If they made a film of your life, who would you want to play you?

Some people have told me I look like Jennifer Garner – maybe her. I also love Alicia Vikander and think she is so talented.

I'm a senior Theatre Arts Production major at Hofstra University. I'm almost always at rehearsal, reading plays, seeing plays, blogging about plays, or fangirling over plays. My likes include giraffes, Britney Spears, American history and coffee.
