Tia Di Salvo
Year: First-year
Major/minor: Journalism with minors in Middle Eastern Studies & International Affairs
Not every student jumps right into clubs their first year of college. It takes a lot of dedication and drive to make yourself stand out when you’re the smallest fish in the pond. Tia had no problem doing that though! She is one of the awesome first-years that joined our Her Campus chapter this year. She is actively involved with Her Campus, as well as other journalism related clubs and organizations on campus.
JH: What do you love about journalism?
TDS: I love that I’m able to not only write about what I love, but learn about it. Journalism often requires a lot of research on topics, which allows me to learn about all aspects of the world everyday. Since I got to college, I’ve been able to learn about politics, global issues, and a bunch of other topics through classes and extracurricular assignments.
JH: What are some of your roles in Her Campus?
TDS: I am the Facebook Editor and Social Chair for our chapter. I also have a travel blog, World Traveled, where I write about my experiences while traveling to various countries.
JH: What kinds of things do you do with WRHU?
TDS: At WRHU, I’m actively involved in the News Department. I am in the process of learning how to engineer our evening news show, Newline. I also help write stories for the show and occasionally record business and entertainment reports. And I also host a bi-monthly country music show.
JH: What’s the most exciting thing you’ve done in the 2015-2016 academic year?
TDS: While I haven’t started yet, the most exciting thing I’ve done this year was apply, and be accepted, to intern in Israel for the summer. Starting in June, I’ll be living on my own in Tel Aviv, working for English-Israeli newspaper! I recently visited Israel on a Birthright trip in January so I’m excited to return!
JH: Describe your dream job?
TDS: My dream job would be to be a foreign correspondent. I hope to do a lot of traveling once I graduate and learn a lot about different the politics and cultures of different nations across the globe. I’d love to work for a network such as VICE or maybe even the Associated Press.
