HU How To: DIY Thanksgiving Dinner

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

It’s that time of year again, Thanksgiving. It’s a time to stuff your stomachs with turkey and stuffing. It’s a time to celebrate family and friends. But as college student traveling back home can be expensive. So if you’re not planning on catching a flight or driving several hours to go home, here are some DIY Thanksgiving meals you can make right in your dorm room.

A Turkey Veggie Tray

There is nothing cuter than a turkey made out of vegetables especially if you are not a turkey lover. All you need are some carrots, peppers, greens, cucumbers, olives and any other vegetable you like. Mostly importantly you will need to know how to make the shape of turkey. Make sure you have a tray and some dipping sauce for vegetables. Simple and cute.

Turkey

Let’s not forget the most important thing on this day of giving, the turkey! Thanksgiving wouldn’t be complete without it.  All you need is a small turkey, some seasonings, bowls and a foil pan to bake your turkey. Add stuffing (that you can easily buy at the supermarket) and your Thanksgiving will be complete.

Stuffing

But if you are not interested in store bought stuffing, here is a recipe that can help make your own. All you need is bread, celery, onion, butter, egg and seasonings. Combine ingredients together and stuff turkey.

The Perfect Thanksgiving Drink

For this Thanksgiving move away from the cider and try something simple and new. With this cranberry flavored drink, you and your roomies will be left wanting more. All you need is apple cider, cranberry juice, ice, a container and Sprite. Simple and easy.

Gourmet Caramel Apples

Nothing is better than ending your Thanksgiving night with some dessert. And what is better than a real simple treat, gourmet caramel apples. All you need is a few apples, caramel (store bought or boiled) and your favorite topping. After you have melted the caramel, dip apples and add your favorite toppings. Rest dipped apples on parchment paper and let it cool.
