Ruvan Wijesooriya is a professional photographer based in New York City. He has worked on a number of projects such as “All Night New York”, “Yearbook Afghanistan”, Roberto Cavalli Menswear campaigns, and for all of you Gossip Girl fans take a look at the art within the Upper East Sider’s homes- many of the works were done brilliantly by Wijesooriya himself.

Wijesooriya’s most recent work Unstitched is quite unique. As everyone seems to be hopping on the virtual reality train, Ruvan innovatively created the first VR fashion shoot. Unstitched brings the viewer onto the set of an editorial cover shoot with the edgy designs, punk beats pouring through and fun, fast-paced movements. You can watch Unstitched using your super cool VR headset, Google cardboard, or simply on your mobile device with the Youtube app.

Through this immersive experience one can be in the room of models running wild, jumping on trampolines, and even disappearing into the middle of the 360 shot. The first time I strapped on the Samsung VR headset I felt a bit disoriented. I was reminded to move my head around in order to feel the experience; Once I was adjusted my body felt as though I was really there. Projects similar to Unstitched make curious ideas for where we can go virtually when you may just be hanging out in your living room. For both technology and fashion, Unstitched sets the tone for a more intimate experience. Most recently, the popular music festival Coachella has announced that they will be providing an all access behind the scenes VR experience for the public through an app you can download on your phone.
