Hofstra’s Midnight Madness

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

This Thursday kicked off the start of the basketball season at Hofstra. To rally the students, alumni and fans, the men and women’s basketball teams hosted their annual Midnight Madness event. A crowd of students and fans gathered outside the Mack Sports Complex Arena, despite Thursday’s rainy weather. The first 1,000 lucky fans to show up at the stadium received a free t-shirt to mark the event.

To get the fans excited, both the men and women basketball players joined Hofstra’s dance team and cheerleaders in a choreographed number to a few of today’s most popular songs. A few players even performed a solo at the end! The dance was nothing short of entertaining and had the entire crowd laughing.

Austin O’Boyle, Hofstra junior, said, “I had such a great time! I thought it was an awesome event and a fun night for the students that definitely increased the school spirit here at Hofstra!”

The energy in the stadium could be felt by all who attended as each player’s name was announced and the coaches welcomed fans and talked about the upcoming season.  After all of the opening remarks, the two teams competed in a series of fun games, like a competition to see which player could make the most unique and impressive slam dunk, and a three-point challenge.

Regardless of the weather, students had a great time welcoming both basketball teams back for another great season. We look forward to cheering them on at their upcoming games this year!
