Fashion Update: Transitioning Your Closet From Summer to Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

Fall is officially in the air and that means it’s time to start wearing your long sleeve shirts, scarves, and break out all your cutest boots!

No more crop tops and high-waisted jean shorts for a while. Say goodbye to your flip-flops and make room for the flowy blouses and quarter-length sleeve shirts; fall is here!

Making the tricky transition from summer to fall clothes can be difficult, but fun at the same time. But how do you know what to wear each day with the temperatures fluctuating so much throughout the day?

The answer is simple. You want to dress in layers. That means putting a variety of sweaters in your closet. And don’t forget all your scarves! They can update any look to fall.

Military jackets are always a must for your fall closet. As far as shoes, wear a pair of combat boots with your jacket to create the perfect fall military look.

When you are going through your summer clothes to turn your closet into a mix of army greens and fall florals, you might as well make an afternoon out of it! Donate last season’s clothes that you don’t want anymore, or see if your friends want them.

Fall is also the time to start wearing tights; tights with skirts, dress, and even shorts. So don’t forget to add those to your closet. You don’t have to move out your favorite summer dresses, just put on a pair of tights underneath for fall!

One last tip for transitioning your closet to fall; start wearing all of your fall hues, such as burgundy, orange, and mustard yellow. This transition is all about contrast and balance. Play with different colors to create your own style. Most of your summer looks can be updated to work for fall weather too.
