Disney+ is Here: These are the 7 “Originals” You Need to Watch

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

Disney+ is here and has brought back tons of nostalgic oldies for us to binge-watch again! With tons of Disney Channel original series, Marvel movies, animated classics and live-action films, there is plenty to keep busy. If you’re looking for something new, Disney+ also has you covered. These are the 7 best Disney+ originals streaming now!

Lady and the Tramp

This remake was released directly to the streaming app and successfully got our attention. It’s the same story we all know and love, except this time with real dogs! The “Lady and the Tramp” remake is a great watch for lovers of the original Disney classic, lovers of dogs and those who want to be impressed by how trained these dog actors really are (we were impressed).

Noelle

“Noelle” is the first Disney+ original live-action movie and is a great watch this Christmas season. Following the titular character, played by Anna Kendrick,  this Christmas special focuses on the passing down of Santa Claus to different generations, although the new Santa, played by Bill Hader, does not feel ready to take the reins. It’s a great family-friendly comedy that will get you into the holiday spirit!

Togo

“Togo” is coming to Disney+ on December 13th, but the story is too great to not get excited about it. Based on a true story, this movie follows a sled dog trainer and his lead dog, Togo, as they push through heavy snowstorms in harsh Alaskan Tundra conditions to heroicly save the city of Nome from a disastrous epidemic. You’re not going to want to miss this touching story coming very soon to the streaming app.

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series

There are tons of mixed feelings about this show, but you should give it a try! This modern take on the classic DCOM follows a group of students at the real East High as they attempt to put on their own production of “High School Musical.” Similar to the classic there will be romance, rivalry and many, many songs to be sung.

The Mandalorian

We know you’ve seen the adorable baby Yoda memes, and if you’re looking to watch where it’s from, then watch “The Mandalorian.” This show is the first live-action “Star Wars” series and has already proven to be a hit. It is a necessary watch for Star Wars fans AND a great introduction to the franchise for those looking to dive into “a galaxy far, far away.”

The World According to Jeff Goldblum

There is not much to say about this one, other than it’s great! If you love Jeff Goldblum, then you’ll love this weekly culture show, hosted by the man, himself. Who wouldn’t enjoy learning about the world through Jeff Goldblum’s eyes?

Encore!

This feel-good reality series is perfect for the theater geek inside all of us! The show follows grown-up high school theatre kids and gives them the opportunity to perform an encore of their school musical. This series is full of many happy reunions, as well as some emotional and inspirational callbacks on the difficulties of high school.

With the streaming service being less than a month old, Disney+ has already given us so much to watch and rewatch! The only question now is how will we ever find the time to watch it all?
