Dancing with the Stars Week Three Recap!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

Another Monday means a new episode of Dancing With the Stars aired on Disney Plus! The third Monday of the competition was “Bond Night,” celebrating the 60th anniversary of the James Bond movie franchise. DWTS announced each couple’s songs and dances prior to the show; however, fans were upset to see very little variation between the dances and believed there were too many rumbas and tangos. Despite these complaints, the couples did not disappoint! Monday’s scores only had a 10-point gap from highest to lowest couple, ranging from 23 to 33. Monday’s show also featured the first “9” scores of the season!

Kicking off the James Bond theme, the show opened with Derek Hough descending from the ceiling, pretending to be on the run. From here, all of the pro-dancers performed a routine to the song “Live and Let Die” by Paul McCartney.

Charli D’Amelio and Mark Ballas were the first couple on the dance floor. They danced the Rumba to “No Time To Die” by Billie Eilish and scored the first “9” of the season. From here, the “9s” didn’t stop! Wayne Brady and Witney Carson danced a traditional tango to the iconic James Bond theme music, earning three “8s” and a “9.” Gabby Windey and Val Chmerkovskiy danced the Cha Cha to Madonna’s “Die Another Day,” earning the same score. All three of these couples scored 33 out of 40, tying for first place for the second week in a row.

Jersey Shore star Vinny Guadagnino and his partner Koko Iwasaki hit the dance floor still basking in the excitement of jumping 10 points last week compared to a rocky introduction in week one. However, their Rumba to “Thunderball” by Tom Jones, only earned the couple a 23 out of 40, landing them at the bottom of the leaderboard once again.

Last week, fitness model Joseph Baena’s partner Daniella Karagach Pashkova unexpectedly tested positive for COVID-19 overnight. Troupe member Alexis Warr stepped in to dance with Joseph and the couple lived to see another week. Daniella was still not back in the ballroom this week, pairing Joseph with Alexis once again for an Argentine Tango. Hopefully, Daniella recovers quickly and returns to the ballroom soon!

Once all couples competed for the evening, the fans’ votes kicked in and, as always, caused some surprises. Not only were Vinny and Koko not voted off, but they also weren’t even one of the couples up for elimination — that position was reserved for actress Cheryl Ladd and her partner Louis Van Amstel and Channel 7 meteorologist Sam Champion and his partner Cheryl Burke. It was a unanimous decision across all four judges to save Sam and Cheryl for one more week, and Cheryl and Louis went home.

Night four, which premieres Monday, October 10, will be Disney Plus night. The stars will be performing dances inspired by their favorite shows and movies featured on Disney Plus. We are all very excited to see what shows and movies the stars will choose, and can’t wait for next week’s fun trip down memory lane!

Daniella is a sophomore at Hofstra University with a major in early childhood education. She is from Long Island, New York. In her free time she’s either reading, writing, scrolling on Instagram, watching Tik Toks, listening to Taylor Swift, catching up on pop culture, or spending time with her friends and sorority sisters.
