Body Mod Blog: Summer Hair Trends Featuring Guy Tang

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

With summer coming around the bend, most of us are getting ready to say astalavista to finals and HELLO to fun in the sun, cookouts with old friends, and spontaneous trips to the next town over. Summer is all about relaxing, letting go, and being a free (for the most part) young individual, so why not take that philosophy to your back to your roots. Your hair roots that is. When is a better time to try out a bold new style than during the months between semesters, after all what do you really have to lose?

Ok so a bold hair color may not be for everyone, but let’s be real-it’s now or never. Why not have an expectedly bright and vibrant summer, with hair masterpieces inspired by color theory master, Guy Tang. Guy Tang is a celebrity hairstylist based in West Hollywood with over one million followers on Instagram and another million on his YouTube channel. Guy Tang’s hair creations are not for the meek and mild, yet astrological signs aside, anyone can add color to their lives on their own terms. Here are just a few of his most brilliant creations, straight from channel.

Oil Spill

Perfect for brunettes looking to change up their style with little damage to their indigo follicles, the oil spill style transcends raven locks. This look can be achieved by adding cool tones (purples, blues, forest greens) over dark hair for a subtle, yet daring new do.

Galaxy

This look is a spot on hair match for girls with their heads in the stars and their dreams in a world beyond our own. Change up a more natural color palette with vibrant blues and deep purples for a hair style that is truly out of this world. Galaxy hair suits nearly every skin tone and hair texture, and shades will very depending on whether or not you choose to lighten before you apply the color.

Denim

Denim hair is a match made in heaven for the girl looking to mix pastels with the fast growing color trend, silver. This muted grey-blue blend is sure to make any hair enthusiast stand out from a crowd and unlike many of her brighter shade sisters, denim is versatile to anyone’s wardrobe. Just like your favorite blue jeans can go with countless outfit combinations, so can denim inspired locks.

Mint

Never thought a hair style could make you feel green with envy, did you? Mint hair is all over the web these days, from Kylie Jenner to the Tumblr goddesses and Pintrest princesses who bravely experiment with extraordinary hair pigments. But who says that you can’t be your own #hairgoals? Be warned, this look takes a lot of bleach to get the pastel tones to pop through.

Muted Rainbow

I am under the absolute conviction that ANYONE can pull off a rainbow hairstyle. The abundance of tones and hues literally mimic the inside of a prism, what’s not to love? Be bold, be bright, and be unique.

Lavender Silver

I know that we all know someone who has worn and rocked the silver hair look, but this summer is all about STANDING OUT. Sure, silver is grand but why not kick it up a notch with a lilac infusion? This color is bold enough to turn heads yet perfect for someone who wants to transform their look from daytime glamor professional to posh pastel club baby.

Undercuts and All

WHOA THERE, basic bitches need not apply to this one. This bold, cropped chop is a stretch even for the most adventurous hair experimenters, but such mastery need to be acknowledged none the less. Whether you are already rocking short locks or considering donating inches, why not take the transformation to the extremes with a “boyish” style that is undeniably feminine. Even Barbie would covet this chic style.

The Full Monty

Oh my glob, is that a unicorn? Nope, just a girl with fabulously mystical locks almost too unbe-weavable to comprehend. Yes my darlings, some lucky lady is really walking the earth with these mop but you too can join in on the mermaid rainbow fantasy. Sure, you may not have Guy Tang at your disposal (who does to be honest, the guy is booked into the next lifetime), but that doesn’t mean that you can’t take inspiration to create your own one of a kind psychedelic hair concoction. Just be sure to go to a stylist who has experience in both color saturation as well as blending different shades, because these strands certainly cannot be reproduced through DIY.
