7 Recipes to Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth Craving

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

For those of you who need something sweet to pull you through college, these easy recipes will satisfy your sweet tooth. Not to mention, given a college student’s budget and, sometimes, inability to cook complex recipes, these recipes are easy to make and can be made with some ingredients you may already have.

The convenient mug brownie

This recipe every college woman NEEDS to have on hand. Only made from six ingredients, this recipe is mess-free and easy to do right before class starts. Using a microwave safe mug, mix together four tablespoons of flour and sugar. Add two tablespoons of water and two tablespoons of cocoa powder. Given probably no college student will have cocoa powder on hand, a great alternative is to use a chocolate mix such as Nesquik. Mix in one-fourth teaspoon of vanilla and microwave it for 30 seconds. Voila! Now, you can eat a brownie in a minute instead of waiting 30 minutes.

Edible eggless cookie dough

Remember when people told you not to eat raw cookie dough because it was bad? Well, this recipe is supposed to be eaten “raw.” It’s also perfect for women who need something sweet during that time of the month. There are many recipes for edible cookie dough such as this one. The best part of this recipe is it only involves a few tablespoons of the required ingredients.

Delicious fried churros coated in sugar

Nothing like some fried desserts such as churros to satisfy your sweet tooth and provide comfort. While many people believe churros is something hard to make, the recipe for the dough is quite simple. The only “hard” part about this recipe is probably the frying. You want to make sure the heat is not too high since it may burn the churros. Likewise, having the oil too low will take longer and the oil with soak into the batter. One of the best recipes for churros is this one since it tells you step by step without making it too complex.

Chocolate doughnut. What else do you need?

Some people think this recipe is a bit more time consuming than others. It’s still a great recipe to satisfy your sweet tooth craving. This recipe can be used as the traditional doughnut shape or even munchkins. This recipe calls for cocoa powder, but Nesquik works best. If you ran out of sour cream or don’t have any, there are many substitutes. Luckily, this recipe has the glaze so it will make your doughnuts even sweeter. It’s up to you if you want to have your doughnuts ‘naked’ or ‘glazed.’

Fried funnel cake

No need to go to a circus for a funnel cake when you can make it at home. Funnel cake is a great recipe for those who don’t love the idea of something super sweet, but still want to satisfy that sweet tooth craving. If you would like to add some chocolate sweetness, melting some chocolate or mixing Nesquik with milk will make a good sauce to drizzle on top of the funnel cake. This recipe doesn’t have baking soda, but some recipes use baking soda instead of powder. It depends on what you have in your kitchen so before making the batter, double check to make sure you have the required ingredients.

Say hello to your new favorite friend: coconut cookies

Instead of the traditional chocolate chip or sugar cookies, this coconut cookie recipe has the same delicious sweetness as other cookies. In order to make this recipe, you want to make sure you have something coconut flavor such as coconut flakes or coconut milk. While these ingredients may not be in a traditional college kitchen, it’s still a great recipe to make. This recipe is great but instead of using white sugar, you can double the amount of brown sugar. If you ran out of vanilla extract and don’t have coconut extract, a good substitution is maple syrup for both.

Not so sweet, but still delicious, banana bread

For non-chocolate lovers, banana bread is a great recipe to satisfy your sweet tooth. Not to mention, the bread is perfect for any time of the day. Typically, the best way to make banana bread is to use a ripened banana. This will make the bread moist and get rid of the banana you’ve been keeping for a while. Sometimes incorporating nuts such as walnuts or even dried pieces of fruit will make the recipe even tastier. This recipe is great since it incorporate nutmeg as well as cinnamon. If you don’t want to add those spices, they’re optional and will still make the banana bread delicious without them. If you have just one ripe banana, there are banana bread recipes that just use one banana and turn out great.

Whether it’s just melting chocolate or using these recipes, it’s always important to satisfy your sweet tooth craving. Hopefully, these recipes will give you ideas as to how to do so, while creating something new and delicious.
