5 Ways To Celebrate Halloween That Don’t Involve Physical Parties

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

Let’s face it: much like the rest of 2020, Halloween will be celebrated much differently than we are used to. That doesn’t mean we can’t still make it fun and stay safe in the process of getting spooky and having fun! If you are looking for ways to make your Halloween as fun as possible but keep COVID-19 away, we’ve got you covered! Here are 5 ways to celebrate Halloween that don’t involve physical parties.

Spooky-Themed Bake-Off

If you love to bake and are always looking for an excuse to try out a new recipe or experiment in the kitchen, this option is definitely for you! Pinterest, Instagram and TikTok are all amazing ways to find new recipes and get inspo for your spooky baked goods. After baking your recipe you can safely deliver them to your friends and/or family to have them vote on who created the best and most creative baked good.

Virtual Costume Party

Arguably, one of the best parts of Halloween is finding the perfect costume. Just because you might not be able to show off your look at a physical party, you don’t have to ditch your ideas altogether. We all may be a little sick of Zoom, but it does offer some features you could use to round out your look. Virtual backgrounds are great for giving your costume context and you could even change your name to hint at what you are dressing as.

Socially Distanced Pumpkin Carving

While the weather is still permitting, making use of outdoor spaces to socially distance is one of the best ways to stay safe but still see your friends and have a good time. Besides, there’s nothing that quite screams “Halloween!” like carving pumpkins in cool, windy weather. You could even combine ideas and each bring a baked good or all contribute a bit of candy to enjoy while you create your pumpkins.

Scary Movie Night Via Netflix Party

One of the best ways to get into the spirit of Halloween is by putting on a movie that will absolutely freak you out. There’s a number of great Halloween movies out there, ranging from the classics like “Halloweentown” to more terrifying picks like “Hereditary.” Whether you choose a movie with flying broomsticks or one with ghosts and ghouls, watching it over a Netflix party with your friends can put you in the Halloween spirit for sure.

Decorate Your Space

The easiest way to get in the mood for Halloween is to decorate your space with Halloween decorations. If you like arts and crafts, an easy way to get started is by getting inspiration from Pinterest, Instagram or TikTok. Another great and cheap way to decorate is by visiting your local Dollar Tree or dollar store for cheap decorations.

Whether you decide to try out one of these ideas or do all five, celebrating Halloween doesn’t need to be canceled altogether because of COVID-19. As long as you are staying safe and keeping everyone around you safe, you are going to have a great Halloween!
