5 Updos to do with your Hair when you’re having a Bad Hair Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

Picture this: you wake up and put together a perfect outfit, only to realize that your hair just isn’t working that day. We all know this feeling a little bit too well, but how do you combat it while still looking cute? Well, we’ve got five updos for all your bad hair needs right here.

The Half Up Half Down

If you’re waking up with the back of your hair sticking up, this is the perfect ‘do for you. Part your hair into two layers and throw the top layer into either a ponytail or a messy bun and voila! You’ll be looking presentable in no time.

The Butterfly Clip

Butterfly clips have been all the rage recently, and we love them for it. These chunky accessories allow messy hair to become ~chic~. Just twist your entire head of hair in an upwards direction and secure it with the clip. You can play around with the placement of the hair in the clip as much as you want until it suits your liking. It’s that easy!

the space buns

This style has made its way in and out of the zeitgeist many times throughout recent years, but we think it’s a staple look. Just divide your hair into two sections and throw each into a high bun. For a more relaxed ‘do, try doing low buns instead.

the double dutch

If you’re looking for something that looks a little more like you really spent time on your hair this morning, try doing two Dutch braids. Just part your hair in half and French braid, but instead of putting the moving strands in front of the middle piece, put them behind. Now you’ve got a pop of texture!

The Classic Pigtails

You may have hated when your mom put you in pigtails as a kid, but you’ll love this cute little updo. Simply take a small piece of your hair on each side of your head and put it into a ponytail. Add butterfly clips for an added youthful touch!

Bonus tip

If you’re like us and need some hair to frame your face at all times, just take your two front strands and leave them out of each of these styles- face framed and messy hair tamed!

Next time you wake up with a glorified mop on your head, give one of these looks a try! You’ll be tricking people into thinking your hair is cooperating in no time.
