5 Thrift Stores Online For All Of Your Sustainable Fashion Needs

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

Nothing is better than finding a vintage gem of clothing while staying sustainable and eco-friendly. One of the most common methods for doing this is by going to your local thrift store and searching through item by item to possibly find a steal. Due to COVID-19, this has become less possible. Thrifting has now been moved online. It is more common than ever to shop sustainable from the comfort of your own home. You can easily sort through all the products to find a specific item you might need, or casually browse the shop to see what catches your eye. There are plenty of online thrift stores, but which are actually worth your time? Below are five websites to check out so you can stay sustainable while looking cute.

ThredUp

ThredUp is one of the most popular online thrift stores on the internet. They have a surplus amount of products to choose from so you will have so many options to scroll through. They also receive all clothing at their warehouse to clean it prior to taking pictures and posting them on their website. This makes it much easier to see the quality of the items rather than allowing any person to post their items.

Patagonia Worn Wear

Patagonia Worn Wear allows those to resell their products of Patagonia to help recycle these quality products.

Depop

Depop is the place to go for trendy and vintage items. They specialize in users selling clothing they no longer use and also allow people to open up businesses that revolved around second-hand clothing.

Poshmark

Poshmark is another go-to online thrift store. It is mainly worth it to order high-quality items through them rather than those of lesser quality. Overall, Poshmark is a great website to check for all your vintage needs.

Etsy

Last, but certainly not least, we have Etsy. Now Etsy isn’t exactly a thrift store, but if you find the right shops there may be some fantastic sustainable second-hand clothing. The only thing with this option is you must search through to find Etsy shops that are trustworthy and eco-friendly.

Overall, there are many pros and cons to thrifting online. With any online shop, make sure to do some research and decide for yourself whether it is worth it or not. Let’s all start shopping sustainably whether in person at local thrift stores or online.

Kayla is a junior at Hofstra University, majoring in journalism and minoring in creative writing and public relations. She has a passion for writing and traveling. A future aspiration of hers consists of becoming a travel writer, or working for a magazine. If you ever need to find her, I recommend checking the mall because she loves spending all her money on clothes that she doesn't need. When not shopping, she can be found watching something on Disney Plus(probably Tangled).
