5 Reasons We Love No Shave November in Theory

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

And so it begins. Slowly we’ll start to see 5 o’clock shadow and stubble and then for the lucky few a full-grown beard. It’s No Shave November people! Get ready things are about to get wild. And so before we’re in the midst of it and forget what life looks like on the other side, let’s take a moment to reflect on this month and why we all have a love/hate relationship with it!

1.          We Get to See What Guys Look Like With Beards.

Beards can bring even a 10/10 to an 11. The sad reality is that Baby-face Syndrome comes back and hits us hard come December, when that beard we grew to love is suddenly gone and we don’t know what to do with these feelings of abandonment. Baby we loved you, why would you leave us like that?!

2.          Beards are Sexy.

Yes, while some guys look sexy with their hair pushed back… Lets face it, on some guy’s beards can look pretty frickin’ nice. It’s the issue of close proximity that makes them not so sexy. Nothing about the feeling of Velcro being rubbed against your face is nice…

3.          It’s Socially Acceptable for Us to Not Shave.

For us girls, this is where we can take a firm stance on equality. Not shaving is pretty liberating. Even if sometimes we feel like we’re forgetting something important… until we realize it’s just the patriarchy that we’ve left behind. And then there’s the stage where our legs start to itch and we tend to cave in and the baby smooth legs are back. It was fun while it lasted!

4.          Beards Come in All Shapes and Sizes.

Not all beards or beard growers were created equal. Because of this the spectrum for beard length and size is pretty vast. You’ll find that guys can range from bikers and lumberjacks to our fathers or younger brothers and their peach fuzz. Worst of all there’s the ones that look vaguely like a dictator from the turn of the 20th century. Some things are just meant to go out of style…

5.          Your Crush Gets Cuter.

This is both a good thing and a bad thing. Your daily run-ins with the cutie on campus just got a little bit better. However that eye candy suddenly is on the radar of every other girl on campus. Doesn’t matter that you saw the potential first. Better plant a flag in it and claim if for your own before another girl does! A small step for girls a giant leap for you.
