As the days have been growing colder, what better thing is there to do, than to curl up in bed with a good book. After doing a little searching and remembering some of my favorite books to read in the fall, here’s a list I compiled of the 5 books you must read this fall.

“Harmony” by Carolyn Parkhurst

“Harmony” is about what it takes for someone to become a villain. This novel is truly a page turner. It follows a family of four and the eldest daughter, Tilly, has developmental issues. She goes through many trials of figuring out what will help her, but nothing seems to work. Eventually this entity shows up to her to heal her. What happens after this moment is what changes the whole family’s life.

This book is great to curl up with at night and just delve yourself into this world.

“The Couple Next Door” by Shari Lapena

This book is truly a thriller. It has twists and turns and things you never thought would happen. To give you the quick jist of the story, a husband and wife left their baby at home while they had went to a party next door. While they were at the party the baby went missing. The characters, not just the husband and wife are so unpredictable, and it keeps you on your toes the entire time. This entire book is killer.

I definitely recommend this if you’re into up-beat story lines and books that are truly unpredictable.

“Carrie” by Stephen King

This one is a little different from the rest, but it is a classic to read this time of year.  Some of you may have heard of this before, but others may just know the movie, so here is a quick little overview.

Carrie is a senior in high school with a special power, more so, a frightening power she uses one night at her senior prom. Carrie has been made fun of most of her life, humiliated in front of everyone, and finally that night is her breaking point. She completely breaks inside and her little gift turns into everyone’s worst nightmare. Nothing is going to be the same again.

“Milk and Honey” by Rupi Kaur

This is one of the best things to read if you just need answers or to reevaluate things. One of my best friends read this and said it was the best book she has ever read, so this one definitely made the list.

This book is actually a collection of prose and poetry with doodles and drawings throughout. Sometimes the words even create the picture. These poems talk about life, violence, loss, femininity, abuse and of course love. “Milk and Honey” is split into four chapters, and each one holds a different meaning. Each chapter helps you deal with and heal a heartache. This book knows how to dig deep down into the parts of the mind and heart that no one wants to explore and deliver you relief and wisdom. It is filled with sweetness between the bitter journeys of life, just like milk and honey.

“Halo” by Alexandra Adornetto

This book will always be one of my favorites. I remember reading it when it first came out and since then I have re-read it multiple times. “Halo” is actually the first book of a trilogy series. Then  comes “Hades,” and the final book is “Heaven.” Out of all of them, the first is still my favorite.

“Halo” is about three angels being sent from Heaven in order to make the world good again. Gabriel is the warrior angel, Ivy is the healer, and Bethany is the youngest and least experienced, being only a teenager. Bethany, however is the most human-like and winds up having feelings for a mortal boy. These angels are pure and all the angels fear that Bethany won’t be strong enough to pull back from her urges, causing her not to be able to save herself or anyone from the Dark Forces. In this story, we yearn to find out if love is strong enough to conquer evil.

These 5 books will truly help make any autumn night better. When those stressful autumn days of classes hit nothing is better than curling up in bed and reading one of these top 5 books.
