5 of the Best Monthly Lifestyle Boxes

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

Lifestyle subscription boxes have made a serious splash in the retail scene, and not just because you can pick them up from your doorstep without having to change out of your PJs. (Online shopping gave us that option years ago, and we’ve never looked back.)  What really makes lifestyle boxes stand out is that there’s a personalized box for just about every theme you can think of. Looking to sample some new beauty products, find the perfect college care package, or even pamper your palate with trendy health food? Check out five of our favorite subscription boxes below, and get ready to fill out some surveys, so that each box is catered just for you.

1. Birchbox. Generally credited as the first beauty subscription box, this is the ultimate source for skin care, makeup and beauty products. Each package contains 4 or 5 samples from top-notch brands and up-and-coming lines alike. Sign up as a Birchbox member and every box will be tailored to your profile. Isn’t it time you found your perfect beauty routine? ($10/month or $110/year)

2. Turntable Kitchen. The idea is almost too perfect: pair food and music in one super satisfying subscription. Run by Kasey and Matthew, the couple behind Turntable Kitchen, each “pairings box” contains an exclusive vinyl single, a digital mixtape created by the couple, 1-2 premium ingredients, three seasonal recipes, and tasting notes. Get ready to dance in your kitchen. ($25/box)

3. Craft Coffee. College and coffee go hand-in-hand. Why not look beyond the campus Starbucks and get fresh coffee beans (made by small, independent coffee roasters) delivered to your door? You can sample coffees from around the world and just might find your new favorite brew. Plus, you can choose between receiving one type of coffee (12 oz.) or three different samples per delivery for the same price. (pay as you go: $24.99/box, pay upfront for 12 months: $20.24 per box)

4. Pijon Box. “This is not a care package,” warns the official website, then clarifies: “This is not just a care package.” With a $30-60 value per monthly box, the Pijon Box offers “delicious and healthy snacks, health and beauty supplies, household essentials, and fun gifts” for every college student. Sign up, select your gender or stick with the gender-neutral option, and receive a monthly box packed with essentials, like flushable wipes, sunscreen, and goodies, like fruity body scrubs and breakfast cookies! (starting at $23/box)

5. Out of the Box Sampler. Etsy lovers, rejoice. These subscription boxes introduce you to the “handmade market,” offering 17 or more samples of candles, body scrubs, soaps, jewelry, gourmet snacks, paper goods, and so much more! Get a monthly peek into small, hardworking businesses from around the world. These are first-come, first-serve, so scoop them up quickly—each box goes on sale on the first Monday of every month at 8:00 pm EST. ($27/box, or purchase the “Bodaciously Bigger Box” for $50+)
