4 Unique Hofstra Clubs and Organizations

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

1. Hofstra Quidditch

“What is QUIDDITCH? Yes, Quidditch, the once fictional sport popularized by the Harry Potter series. If you’ve never witnessed a Quidditch game in person, you may picture it as a bunch of cloak wearing geeks on broomsticks, pretending to fly. This is not the case. Quidditch is a mixture of rugby, dodgeball and wrestling. It is entirely physical – more so than football as there is no padding, but tackling is still allowed (and encouraged). It is not for the faint of heart…You don’t have to be a Harry Potter fan to try this new and growing sport. All are encouraged and welcomed to try out and play this physically intense, yet wildly enjoyable sport we’ve all read about. We hope to see you out on the Quidditch pitch!”

2. Hofstra Versus Zombies

“Welcome to Hofstra Versus Zombies, a club that organizes instances of the popular collegiate live-action game Humans Versus Zombies twice a year.” If you see people running around in zombie makeup or with Nerf blasters, it’s probably HVZ. They are the largest social club at Hofstra. If you’re looking for a way to kill some zombies, or just make A LOT of new friends, this is the club for you.

3. Paw Pals

“Paw Pals, the only animal club at Hofstra University, was created in 2010. Initially, the club focused on mobilizing students to volunteer at a local animal shelter, but recently, it has begun to branch out to organizing friendly animal rights awareness initiatives and fundraisers for local animal organizations. Members of the club have access to near-daily trips to local animal shelters and are also encouraged to participate in and support club and shelter events.” If you enjoy petting adorable animals you should join this club. There are no other extracurricular activities at Hofstra where you can play with animals.

4. RHYTHMiX

RHYTHMiX is a “tap club at Hofstra designed for those who appreciate, are curious about, or love the art form. We plan to have jam sessions, watch footage and learn about the history, hold lessons, and have some master classes and other events! This is not a performance club, it’s just a fun environment to learn about tap and music and jam! This club is open to everyone, from the most advanced tapper to people who have never tapped in their life.”

I'm a senior Theatre Arts Production major at Hofstra University. I'm almost always at rehearsal, reading plays, seeing plays, blogging about plays, or fangirling over plays. My likes include giraffes, Britney Spears, American history and coffee.
