National Thrift Shopping Day was this week and we hope all of you had an awesome time shopping! Here are some tips to hone in on your thrifting skills or introduce you to the wonderful world of thrift shopping. Enjoy!

  1. If you’re looking for anything, a thrift shop should be the first place you look. They have so many unexpected items; you may get lucky!

  1. Don’t buy anything with stains. It’s just gross. Don’t do it.

  1. If it seems too expensive, it probably is. Do a little research if you’re looking for a specific item.

  1. If you buy an electronic item, ask if it works. Even though it’s probably way cheaper than retail price, it’s better than getting home and finding out it’s dead and gone.

  1. Go to thrift shops that look clean from the outside and inside. If the thrift shop looks like it could be dirty and unkempt, so could their inventory.

  1. Inspect and item thoroughly before buying it. Nothing is worse than buying an item for $3 and not being able to use it.

  1. Always wash clothes before you wear them. You don’t want to smell like the previous owner. (Unless of course that owner was Beyonce. In that case, never wash it. Ever.)

  1. Make sure to carry cash. Not all places will accept your card.

  1. If something does seem too expensive, try to bargain with them. Chances are they just want it out of their shop.

  1. Get to know the consigner or storeowner. They could give you even more of a discount and you make a new friend. WIN WIN!

  1. Send your own junk to a thrift store. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

  1. You never know what you’re going to find, so keep your eyes peeled.

  1. If you find something that’s cheap but doesn’t fit your style, make it your next project and make a truly unique piece that reflects your style.

  1. Visit thrift shops when you’re on vacation! It give you a chance to look at stuff from other areas.

  1. Flaunt your bargains. Example: “Yeah that’s right, I got this for $2!!! I know, I’m an awesome bargain shopper, please no autographs.”

HAPPY THRIFTING!
