Once you finish that last final, you cannot wait to go home and sleep for a week. Winter break is all about relaxing and recharging from school. But then, when you’re fully rested, you’re ready to do something with the time you have before you go back into school mode. But what should you do with your time? Here are ten ideas of things to do over winter break:
1. Ice Skate

A classic winter pastime is ice skating. It’s just something fun and simple to do. Brace the chilly winter air all bundled up in your coat and scarf while skating away with your significant other or your friends. Ice skating is always a great idea.
2. Build a Gingerbread House

What’s something that you can make with friends and family and eat after? A gingerbread house! Gingerbread houses are so much fun, even if it does cause a mess. Extra points if you make it into a competition and you win!
3. Build a Snowman

From the words of young Anna in Frozen, “Do you want to build a snowman?” Everyone loves snowmen, and you cannot go one winter without at least trying to build a snowman. For the longest time I have never been able to finish a complete snowman, but that doesn’t stop me from trying every year. This is the perfect thing to do to pass the time (and deal with snow!).
4. Relax

When in doubt, relax. When you’ve got nothing else to do, just spend time with yourself, drinking tea or coffee and clear your mind. You’re done with fall semester and you don’t have to worry about classes, homework, and tests for a few weeks. Enjoy the time you have to do what you want.
5. Plan for Spring Break

Winter is fun, but after a few weeks of snow and ice, almost everyone is dreaming of sun and warmth. What better else to do than plan for Spring Break?! Spring Break is something ever college student can get excited for, so start planning your fun now! When it comes to booking flights, hotel rooms, or cruises, it’s never too soon to get planning.
6. See the family

While being away at school, you rarely get to see or spend time with your family. Use your free time over winter break to catch up with them!
7. Get Ready for Spring Semester
If you want to be ahead of the game, then start planning for your upcoming spring semester. You probably already have your classes scheduled, but that doesn’t mean that you can start putting together your notebooks, papers, planner, etc. Being prepared and being ahead of the game already puts you ahead of everyone else and gets you ready to start your semester off right.
8. Winter Cleaning

If you’re like me, you wait until classes are officially over before you start clearing out your papers. So when you find that you have nothing to do one day, just clean out all of your papers from the fall semester. There’s no such thing as being too organized!
9. Volunteer

You can go to a soup kitchen, decorate with children, clean up snow, or shovel your neighbor’s driveway – the list is endless. There are so many things that you can do to help people in need and doing it over winter break is a great use of your free time. Not only will you feel good about doing it, but you’ll make someone else’s day, too.
10. Netflix

Everyone knows and loves this streaming service. Netflix is one of the best things to do whenever you are bored on on break. There are hundreds upon hundreds of shows, movies, and documentaries – there’s bound to be something that you can find to watch during this long winter break. And as an added bonus, you don’t have to feel guilty about doing it instead of homework!
