DIY| 3 Homemade Face Masks with Honey

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Helsinki chapter.

Face masks! We all love those! In whatever form or texture! They are every woman’s luxurious relaxing treat! A great (and cheap) way to enjoy face mask is, well, to do it yourself!! What’s better than to indulge yourself and have a good spa moment at home with a DIY face mask? Be careful, though! Do not start mixing whatever ingredients you find in your fridge and kitchen cabinets since not all of them are skin-friendly! One of the most beneficial and safe ingredients for the skin is honey. That’s why I collected 3 of my favorite and super easy homemade recipes for facemasks with honey just for you! Enjoy!

What are the beneficial properties of honey?

Thanks to its natural moisturizing and emollient elements, honey can treat dryness and restore the skin’s lost radiance and softness. Additionally, thanks to its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial action, it can help reduce irritation and reduce acne signs. It is also worth mentioning that honey increases cell renewal rate; therefore, it can heal wounds and acne scars.

Mask#1   Hydration mask for dry skin

What you need:

1 tablespoon of honey,  2 tablespoons of oats and 4 tablespoons of lukewarm water

How it works:

Mix it all up, apply the mixture all over the face, leave the mask on for 20 minutes and rinse with clean water.

TIP: Oats lightly exfoliate and soothe irritated skin.

Mask#2   Cleansing mask against acne

What you need:

1/4 teaspoon of turmeric and 1 teaspoon of honey

How it works:

Mix the ingredients in a bowl, apply with a cotton swab a little of the mixture on a pimple, leave it to act for 20 minutes, and then rinse.

TIP: Turmeric is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and for helping reduce redness.

Mask#3  Revitalizing mask against dull skin

What you need:

2 tablespoons of honey and 2 tablespoons of greek yoghurt

How it works:

Mix the ingredients in a bowl and apply the mixture all over the face. Leave the mask on for 20 minutes and rinse with water.

TIP: Yogurt contains many B-vitamins (B2, B5, and B12), which offer radiance and hydration to the face. It also contains lactic acid, which has anti-aging and exfoliating effects.
