Bake A Vegetarian Pie to Suit Your Zodiac Sign!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Helsinki chapter.

Are you craving for a warm pie or a quiche during this dark and chilly time of the year, but don’t quite know what to bake inside? Don’t worry, we (and the stars) got you covered!

Let us start by introducing an easy recipe for a quiche, which you can then adapt to fit your zodiac sign and fill with a variety of tasty ingredients! The quiche base and filling are easy to prepare dairy-free.

Ingredients, base:

2 deciliters of flour

1 deciliter of oatmeal

1 teaspoon of baking powder

1 deciliter of vegetable oil (I prefer olive oil)

1 egg

Ingredients, filling:

A pieful of the filling of your choice (take a look below!)

oil for frying

2 deciliters of vegetable oil mixtures for cooking, such as Planti

2 eggs

½ teaspoons of salt

some black pepper

How to prepare:

Prepare the filling of your choice and let it cool while preparing the base.

Mix the flour, oatmeal and baking powder in a bowl. Add the egg and oil while mixing. Roll out the dough along a wide pie mold. Use greaseproof paper in between the dough and the mold.

If you want to, you can put the base in the oven for 5 minutes.

Add the fried/cooked/sliced fillings of your choice in the mold. Mix well all the rest of the filling ingredients and spices of your choice and pour on top of the pie. Bake in 200 °C for approximately half an hour.

Choose a filling according to your Zodiac sign:

Aries  You have no desire to cool down whatsoever, quite the contrary, you wish to add some spicy boost to your dishes, too! Don’t go making it too complicated, though, consider red bell peppers, onion and capers, add a bit of chili and season with a hint of rosemary or garlic!

Taurus  Any type of pie sits well with a Taurean person. Try baking it with a lot of spinach and add some artichokes or cooked asparagus to bring that sophisticated something to it! If you feel like it, you can even roast or boil beetroots for the quiche, if someone has the needed endurance for that, it’s you! Season with thyme, sage or mint.

Gemini  Bulky root vegetables are not for you, but pretty cauliflowers and broccoli are right up your alley! Remember to cook them properly first and try to season with a hint of parsley and marjoram. Nuts are salutary for a demanding brain and adding them makes the pie way more interesting!

Cancer  Whether you enjoy baking or not, chances are that you have a knack for this type of thing. Try to go traditional and bake a pie with cabbage and/or mushrooms! You should also consider fleshy squash, or, if you don’t mind milk products, feta cheese. Mint and tarragon are interesting spices that might suit you.

Leo  I would recommend meat for you if it didn’t go against my morals. But worry not! All kinds of ingredients with a rich and full-rounded taste suit you well! Try spinach pie with crushed walnuts or discover the amazing kale or fennel! Season with rosemary and add that little sweetness you know you crave with some liquid honey.

Virgo  Have you tried Belgian endive in a pie? Me neither, but I promise you they are tasty! If your head is about to explode just from the thought of mastering a new ingredient when you are not perfect with the more typical ingredients either (oh, the agony!), try carrots, cooked potatoes or turnips! Add some extra to it with maize, nuts or fennel.

Libra  Artichokes and asparagus are the Libran choice, especially if someone has already prepared them for you! You are also fit for surprisingly spicy food, especially sweet & spicy -mix, so remember to pay attention to seasoning too.  If you feel especially daring, prepare the quiche with some fruits, for example plantains!

Scorpio  If you prefer not to eat meat, try beans and legumes. Add some leek and/or onion and don’t forget spices! Challenge yourself with Asian spice blends, or surprise someone with strong flavors like celery or fennel!

Sagittarius  Tomatoes might sound boring at first, but you can try to season them or use sundried tomatoes with garlic, for example! Explore ethnic food markets to see what kind of vegetables they are offering. Use this chance to learn something new! Whatever choices you end up with, remember to chop some onion or leek with it.

Capricorn  Onion, cooked potatoes, beets and spinach are the typical choices for a vegetarian Capricorn. Why do they always have to make me sound so conservative, thinks the Capricorn. Add some of that salty in the dish with your choice of salted nuts!

Aquarius  If you are the stubborn type, you might be interested in making the pie as healthy as possible – before you run to the most expensive health food store nearby, consider nutritious foods you can find in the nearest supermarket too, like spinach, walnuts and beets! Add peppers and chilies to give it that spicy taste all the eccentrics enjoy!

Pisces  Any vegetables with a watery structure are the right vegetables for you! Try celery, bok choy (pak choi), radish, green bell peppers and tomatoes. And of course, the best of all, zucchini! Season it and see for yourself – zucchini is also wallet-friendly (take this as a friendly suggestion form a Capricorn)!

Of course, you can also bake the quiche with any ingredients you’d like or use your favorite pie base recipe! Enjoy!
